But you brought O'Hearn into the discussion, right? Okay, back to my little fantasy.

In the sense of, KC had a thought that a player wouldn’t work for them in the past, so they aren’t infallible in those choices.  And we have a recent example of that on our team.

Relievers recently acquired by the Orioles (with major league experience):

  • Colin Selby
  • Burch Smith
  • Nick Avila
  • Levi Stoudt
  • Thyago Vieira
  • Corbin Martin
  • Yohan Ramirez
  • Andrew Suarez
  • Jonathan Heasley
  • Craig Kimbrel
  • Tucker Davidson

I may be missing somebody. Obviously, Craig Kimbrel was the signing that had every intention of immediately helping the major league club. But to date, none of the other guys have actually been effective at the major league level for the O's or have made it back to the big leagues for them. The jury is still out for Burch Smith, we'll see.

I hope Colin Selby can help the O's. His stuff sure is interesting. But these signings generally are there for depth, tinkering, etc. All that said, it's been awhile since the O's have hit on one of these relievers a la Coulombe, Perez, Cano, Webb, Krehbiel...even Baker. They were so good on at least turning one of a half dozen or so into reasonably effective/useful arms for the big club.

We'll see.

Look man, I know you don't like to be wrong but it's okay. It just proves you are human. You don't have to personally attack me because you got caught in a lie just now.

I'm still not convinced he's human.

I wonder if the O's are going to see how effective Selby can be by changing how he leverages his fastball. With his diminished velocity (97 last year, 94 this year), he probably can't afford to live like this:

Chances are they'll have him live more with the sinker/slider/curveball combo. If that's the case, he could be a Cano type with the grounders and keep the 4 seamer as a change of pace pitch out of the zone. Now, he's only thrown his 4 seamer 22 times this year, but he's lived too middle/middle with it.

He does seem to fit the profile of the kinds of pitchers that the O's like in relievers: strikeout stuff with heavy sinker usage.

I'm intrigued.

In 22 four-seam pitches this year.  It's normal to have some variation.  And don't recall where the stabilization point is for pitches.  It's probably pretty low.  It at least provides some hope for a bit more juice...

Don't anyone get your hopes up; he was optioned to Norfolk. The Tides are where decent players go to rot in Purgatory forever, while such luminaries as Cole Irvin and Colton Cowser stay permanently cemented in the bigs. Pay no attention to our minor league rosters; you won't see anyone from there playing for the Orioles this year until roster expansion in September, and even then, it'll be the bare minimum and we won't be sending down anyone who deserves sending down, or DFAing anyone who deserves to be DFAed.

I'd just like to state that I think I was the first to wonder if they'd be shopping the "Cash Considerations Aisle."  I hope this is a good pick up.  I'm hopeful.

Why, I remember it as if it were only yesterday....

    • Just a friendly, helpful advice regarding posting here.  Please do not take this fully as criticism...  I'm just trying to help you out. This place sees its share of uneducated posters, like any fan forum does.  But it's also populated by some of the most knowledgeable baseball fans I've ever personally known.  My role on this board is generally to bring a little levity to counterbalance some of the seriousness, but when I do post serious opinions, I don't just pull them out of nowhere. I put them up for specific reasons when warranted, with some good evidence behind my viewpoint.  I've virtually hung out with the folks on this board for a decade and a half, and I respect them too much to do waste their time doing otherwise. And let me tell you, not a single soul here is going to take someone seriously on this board if they frequently do stuff like start bad-take reaction threads, or if they consistently do things like cite a player's batting average as the all-important, be-all-end-all offensive metric.  It makes one look like a three-year-old playing with Legos, while the adults in the room are building advanced rocket propulsion systems.  My point is, I know everyone wants to have their views taken seriously, and to have their views respected on the board (otherwise, why would they even be here, posting them?).  Folks should just keep an eye on and understand where they are, and the level of game they should step up to, in order to have the best experience possible.  Many of the folks here are very smart, and very serious.  They aren't playing whiffle ball, and they never will be.
    • Thats Fair, my original post was to youres. What have they missed on? I agreed with you, I said nothing other than that Jazz guy from Miami. and we disagree on that Theres no Burn there
    • Makes sense.  Especially for Mayo.
    • My guess is that certain decisions need Elias approval.   Vavra and Soto were default decisions that Hyde/Eve/Frobby can make But Holliday and Mayo?  "Some clocks are more equal than others."
    • The OP has 13 downvotes.  I don't think I've ever seen that many.  😄
    • Elias said in an interview with 105.7 that Eflin was the best SP that was available. Skubal and Crochet weren’t deal. Roger was a guy he could get for the #5 slot and he wanted a left hander for the rotation. Cleveland is very good against LHP. I’d give it more than 1 start.
    • Listen I like Jazz as a player, I think he's an exciting guy to watch, I've even had him alerted in my MLB app for the last couple of seasons.  I just don't think he was ever on the O's radar, and there are plenty of reasons why that would have been the case.  My issue is with criticizing Elias for not getting a player that didn't fill a need as clearly as the players he got do.  You and others may not love all the names we got for the pitching staff, but they are clear upgrades in a clear area of need.  An area of need much greater than who plays LF against left handed pitching.  There's been a ton of roster turnover in the past few days; there was no reason to have even more.
