I'm just of the mindset of "Sink or Swim" and David was swimming quite well.

David does have a good mental approach to his recent delegation and is dedicated to continue his toughness approach to hitters he faces when the opportunity arises.

@TonyOH

Yes unfortunately you're correct about the politics in the minor leagues, saw it happen with my oldest son too, just a tough pill to swallow.

I can certainly imagine it is for his father. David's on a nice role right now so I would not be surprised if he works his way back to a starting role. That was his longest stint of the year last night and he's now thrown 8.2 perfect innings so that will begin to get notice.

David Baker has easily been one of my favorite players to watch. I know that numbers aren't the only thing to look at, but they do have value to me. David's numbers have been outstanding, especially last year. He was very good at Aberdeen and Delmarva (after his call up), and at a relatively young age too. I would think the Orioles would be excited about this, would they be if he was a top 10 pick?

I don't know what happened (injury?) that didn't allow him to start the year on a full season squad. I was also quite surprised by both his assignement back to Delmarva and his placement into the bullpen. As others have said, I hope he doesn't get down and just stays motivated to continue to put up big numbers. Eventually, they cannot be ignored. There are clear candidates at both Delmarva and Frederick who are starting and could easily be replaced by David. I hold out hope that this will happen in the second half of the season.

Look at the 2011 numbers, what more do you want??

Great numbers to start a career....

His performanc is being noticed. Here's a quote from Bret Lasky's Game Notes:

"BAKER’S PERFECT: David Baker retired all 11 batters that came to the plate against him yesterday. He has now retired 26 consecutive batters over his last four appearances. Baker has tossed 8.2 perfect innings in the month of June. "

Frustrated Dad here so please forgive the rant,

David Baker has been told that the Orioles don't have him as a future starting pitcher but yet he continues to prove himself i.e. tonight's game,

I guess new management has a crystal ball that tells them this. after a phenominal season last season he's been delegated to middle relief pitcher.

Damn, it pays to have the title prospect attached to your name even if you have a high era.

I'm not concerned with speculation or trolls but feel as I though I call it as I see it.

Professional baseball is tough!

Signed

Jilted Dad

Hi, Mr. Baker.

Do you think you could get David's autograph for me, so that when he makes it to the majors, I can say that I have one ??? :)

Is there any chance the Orioles are doing this because they thing he'll be able to advance faster and help sooner? It's just a thought. However I can certainly appreciate Mr. Baker's position, it's only natural to feel that way.

Seems odd that they would do that but then also keep him in Delmarva.

I'm not that surprised that they would keep him in Delmarva for another year, but I am surprised that they didn't promote him to Frederick with the change in roles, considering how well he pitched last year.

Certainly understand the frustration of a father in this case. If David keeps up the good work and keeps getting guys out I'm sure he'll force the issue some.

Johan Santana

Lance Lynn

Jeff Samardzija

Derek Lowe

C.J Wilson

Kenny Rogers

All were relievers coming through the minors, and all have had pretty good starts to their careers or good careers. Hope is never lost.

Santana started 59 of his 67 minor league games

Lynn started 72 of 77

Samardzija started 86 of 112

Lowe started 129 of 134

Wilson started 70 of 95

Only Rogers spent a significant time as a reliever starting just 60 of 173 games.

You really missed the point here...

So what is the point, exactly? That you can spend some time as a reliever in the minors and then go back to being a starter? Well, sure, that can happen. Heck, we may see Michael Gonzalez starting games for the Orioles any day now.

Baker was "officially" promoted to Frederick today. Tried to post Saturday night when I first found out, but was unable to.

Good for him! It was hard earned. Keep it up, kid! OH appreciates what you are accomplishing.
