Fangraphs: Do Cutters Kill Fastball Velocity?

Fangraphs tries to tackle Peterson's comments on the Cutter and find inconclusive results.

The main issue they have is limited sample size both in players and the time in which they have data.

They also split Cutters into two groups, Grip Cutters and Baby Sliders. They feel that Peterson is talking about the latter.

Like I said, nothing conclusive but not a bad read.

Thanks for the article.

The "grip" cutter appears to me to be what Tillman and Hunter are both throwing. Tillman infrequently and Hunter more frequently over his career. In Bundy's case it would appear to be the one they definitely don't like.
