(vs. D-RAYS, 8/25)

Markakis breaks out of a slump in a big way.

A 2-run home run early in the game, when the Orioles' struggling offense needed it badly.

I didn't want to start a new thread on this, but Nick's at bat in the 7th inning exemplified why he has value to this team beyond the stat sheet. The Reds had just erased a huge deficit and Nick's the first guy up for the O's. Nick goes up and has a really tenacious at bat where he fouls off several two strike pitches and finally comes up with a base hit. I knew right then and there we'd score that inning and win the game.

I really feel that Nick's tenacity and quiet intensity is an important element of what makes this team go. You just knew he'd have an at bat like that in that situation.

Yeah that was an incredible at bat. When he got that hit. I knew we would score somehow. Didn't know how it would happen but it just gave me a lot of confidence.

Nick is the man. The buzz term in the clubhouse this year seems to be "grinding out games/at bats/innings/whatever" but nobody on the team can grind out at bats like Nick can.

Ken thinks Yankees might make a play if Orioles don't pick up option.
