Jones at .400

Adam Jones is now batting .402, projected to hit 35 HRs with 148 RBI. OK, so he probably won't hit .400 and drive in that many runs, but I was wondering:

When is the last time an Oriole was batting over .400 with 87 or more ABs? It's a small sample size, but it still seems pretty rare.

And what's the latest in a season that a qualifying Oriole held a .400 BA?

I'm trying to figure out how to use Baseball Reference to determine the answers, but I'm betting that someone smarter than me can do it in a few seconds.

Thats a Drungo question for sure.

According to my quick research.

Melvin Mora holds the Oriole record with .340 in 2004.

I think that little guy...Keeler, I think it was, did a touch better then that.

If you don't want to count those Orioles, then Sisler hit 420 for the Browns in 1922.

If you just want to count the last 60 years, well you aren't much fun.

But Sisler's season high for HR was 19 so he wasn't a MOO. Frankly I expect more offense out of first base. ;)

Right, but who was the last one to hit .400 after 87 AB? That's the question we seek.

Not exactly what you want, but this is close:

name_common | year_game | dateg | ABs | Hs | BA |

+--------------------+-----------+-------+------+------+-------+

| George Brett | 1980 | 09-04 | 384 | 154 | 0.401 |

| John Olerud | 1993 | 08-02 | 365 | 146 | 0.400 |

| Nomar Garciaparra | 2000 | 07-20 | 278 | 112 | 0.403 |

| Larry Walker | 1997 | 07-17 | 343 | 138 | 0.402 |

| Tony Gwynn | 1997 | 07-14 | 356 | 143 | 0.402 |

| Rod Carew | 1983 | 07-13 | 254 | 102 | 0.402 |

| Rod Carew | 1977 | 07-10 | 317 | 127 | 0.401 |

| Andres Galarraga | 1993 | 07-05 | 255 | 102 | 0.400 |

| Tony Fernandez | 1999 | 06-28 | 255 | 102 | 0.400 |

| Rod Carew | 1974 | 06-27 | 265 | 106 | 0.400 |

| Rico Carty | 1970 | 06-17 | 212 | 85 | 0.401 |

| Paul O'Neill | 1994 | 06-16 | 200 | 81 | 0.405 |

| Rod Carew | 1975 | 06-16 | 180 | 72 | 0.400 |

| Hank Aaron | 1959 | 06-15 | 244 | 98 | 0.402 |

| Lenny Dykstra | 1990 | 06-11 | 207 | 83 | 0.401 |

| Willie Mays | 1958 | 06-11 | 220 | 88 | 0.400 |

| Stan Musial | 1958 | 06-11 | 170 | 69 | 0.406 |

| Todd Helton | 2000 | 06-10 | 205 | 82 | 0.400 |

| Roberto Alomar | 1996 | 06-10 | 235 | 95 | 0.404

Alomar was hitting .404 on June 10th after 235 at bats. But that doesn't mean he was hitting .400 or higher after 87 at bats.

Roberto Alomar was hitting over .400 into June in 1996.

EDIT - gah! fristed by many others. :)

After 274 PA he was hitting .404.
