Manny still worth 400 million?

A-Rod was 134 Ops+ The year before he got 252 M. Manny is133 right now at 24. He'll get upwards of 35M IMO.

Your post is unintentionally misleading. The 134 OPS+ season was a full year before ARod hit free agency. The season immediately before free agency, he was at 163 OPS+. Previously, he had posted a 161 OPS+ season. He'd had years of 10.4 WAR, 9.4 WAR and 8.5 WAR -- all levels Manny has fallen well short of. Obviously we don't know what Manny will do the next two seasons, but it's not that likely he'll reach those levels. ARod also was a year younger than Manny will be when he hit free agency.

Agreed.

Manny is a cornerstone player you build around not let walk for a pick.

So you either trade him or extend him. Smart teams extend earlier.

Agreed - I would try to extend him this offseason for 10/250. If he doesn't take it, then trade him. That's a QUARTER-BILLION dollars, dude. Seriously.

If you trade him, get 3-4 top prospects, including one MLB-ready infielder. If that infielder's a third baseman, great. Plant him at third. If not, move Schoop to third.

It would be horrible to lose Manny and get a draft pick as compensation. Any GM that let that happen should be summarily fired.

Mike Trout best four seasons OPS+ 168 173 176 179

Barry Bonds. 231 259 263 268

It's a bit closer than that if you look at WAR, because Bonds was no longer a good defensive player in those years. And, you're comparing Bonds' best four years out of 20 to four in Trout's five year career so far. Still, we're a decade away from knowing how Trout holds up. He presumably won't have Bonds' "advantages."

If Harper is worth 500m then manny is surely worth 400m.

If Harper is 500m, machado is 1 billion. Harper had one good year, he has been overrated for most of his career. Maybe he is injured this year, we will find out next year. So far he has had 1 tremendous year and maybe a month or so to begin this season before he went into tailspin.

Those post age 33 years sure will need to be something. Especially if we are relying on the peccadilloes of defensive metrics.

We have no idea what Trout's defense will look like after he starts bulking up for those age 30+ seasons.
