Last year Blach had 13 starts at a 4.25 ERA

and was pretty much a starter.

This year he only has 6 innings over 2 relief appearances. Maybe they want to put him in the rotation. He’s been a 4.50 era pitcher over 4 seasons.

Seems better than what we’ve been sending out there lately.

He must’ve been injured as I don’t see any AAA stats.

Quality start, 6 innings - 3 ER, is a 4.50 ERA...

Good pick up.  Innings eater.   Gives up a lot of hits but  can go 100 pitches/game.  Probably better than Brooks.   A left-hander.  A left-handed Eshelman.     Not in the long term picture but someone that might be around until the Bowie crowd arrives.   Has options this year and next year.   Has two years of service and will not get enough ML time to be a super two  this season so he will be cheap through next season.   Hasn't pitched since 7/20 so probably going to Norfolk to start on a 5 day schedule and  then be recalled.  JMO

Assets Owns an excellent changeup, which complements his fastball well. Is both reliable and durable on the mound. Is a consistent performer who doesn't beat himself.
Flaws Doesn't have a dominant fastball, and his breaking pitches are only average. Needs to cut down on his penchant for long balls in order to maximize output in MLB.
Career potential Solid left-hander with a little upside.

Penchant for long balls hmm?  Well, welcome to the all time team for that kind of deal!

Makes me wonder exactly what they did with Armstrong to fix him, (at least temporarily) and whether they can do the same with. Brach got DFA-Ed by the cubs too.

Brach/Blach

needs to happen.

Roch had a post a week or so ago about Armstrong's improvements.  Can't remember the specifics but not a major overhaul or anything.  IIRC, slight adjustments.

Yep.

Speaking of which, Paul Fry shows off some impressive outfield skills during batting practice.

The new meta, pitchers who are also late inning defensive replacements.

Blach is an innings eater. Even when looking at his milb stats he was a horse. He also gives us a LH SP option.

Hopefully Rondon clears. We need to take all the upper minors SS options we can take. He was insurance in case Villar was traded.

Blach, Books, Eshelman are all types that we should have OD next year for depth.
