Josh Hader (High A, Astro's) struck out 10 while allowing only a run and four hits in 4 innings in his first start of the season.

The Norris trade will often be highlighted in future discussions of DD failed tenure in Bmore.

Josh a local MD product just turned 20 today and was in the mid 90's on Saturdays start.

Yes, good teams always keep every halfway decent prospect in low A ball instead of trying to upgrade the MLB team and stay in the pennant race. I love orgs that reflexively place more value on Sally League fans than MLB fans.

Hey I'm all for upgrading the ML team, but when you give up a ML ready 4th OF'er, a first round sandwich pick and a guy who was ranked as your 8th highest ranked prospect for a pitcher who isn't even a replacement level starting pitcher... than you were hosed.

What does acquiring Bud Norris have to do with upgrading the MLB team?

What were the O's playoff chances when they pulled the trigger on that deal? How much did acquiring Bud move the needle?

He's basically an average MLB starter with a good strikeout rate despite pitching for some absymal Astros teams. Was it the world's greatest trade, of course not. But it wasn't a bad deal, not the near-tragedy webbrick is painting it as. Don't pretend Hader or Hoes were anything but middling prospects in a middling minor league system.

I'd much rather have the DD approach where he occasionally takes some risks rather than the prior regime's method of holding onto every 14th-rated org prospect like he's gold because you know you only have about one or two ways of ever acquiring more talent.

Oh the pick bothers me a lot more then the players.

Too bad for JJ. Great move by DD to sell high on him, but I hope he gets he juice back. Probably better suited as a 7th/8th inning guy.

I don't think he sold high on him. If we would have in 2012, that would have been selling high. I just haven't had any confidence in him since Ibanez in the playoffs.

Sell high? Jemile Weeks. He should have been traded after 2012 for Porcello and we may have made the playoffs last year.

And we just made the same mistake this offseason by not selling high on JJ Hardy.

Maybe it's a JJ thing... we can't think reasonably that our JJ's aren't that good and we need to move on.

That's nice hindsight. No Gm anywhere trades the all-time team leader in saves after a year like JJ's 2012. Especially after making the playoffs and having a winning season on a non cash strapped team for the first time in a decade and a half. Yes your way would have been better. It is not necessary to cry over the spilled milk. It would have been good for you and I to play the lottery if we knew tomorrow's winning combination.

It's the same old story with him. He can't get the leadoff man out. He throws too many pitches.

So glad he's not an Orioles anymore.

I watched the whole inning and it was deja vu... he gave up a leadoff single on a ground ball... he threw a nasty 2-seamer to freeze the next batter... he walked the next... then walked the next to load the bases... then gave up a bloop shallow single to tie... then got yanked.

He didn't give up anything hard, his 2-seamer looked nasty, he got squeezed at the plate and got babiped to death. In other words, the exact same nightmare we witnessed last year.

Thank god we're not dealing with that this year.
