2022 1st Round Pick (#1): Jackson Holliday, - SS - Stillwater HS (OK)

I wouldn't be surprised if Holiday was at the top of the board. Shortstop is a little bit like QB in the NFL draft. If you believe in him defensively at short, that's just a lot of positional value

Maybe we were also just told a little about Gunnar-Westburg SS viability for beyond just a short while.

In good with it.  I wanted Jones but Elias took the player he wanted, so we should all be happy with that.

He has to feel he can stick at SS to take him 1-1. If you think he's a second baseman, you have to go with Termarr Johnson. 

I will say that Elias has said the same thing about a few other guy that look like they move to other positions, but let's hope this time it works out. He's not very big at 6-1, so he shouldn't outgrow the position.

If Holliday and Jones were both neck and neck though I’m assuming the price played a part here. I’m not mad at it btw. 

Overall happy with the pick despite the fact that I can’t get over that he looks like he’s 12.

Yeah, maybe. But also having a glut of highly rated middle infield prospects makes it easy to swing a trade for a TOR starter.

The talk was that if he can’t stay at SS that he would go to third or CF.

That’s because you can’t pass for 40.

I think the price is a few hundred K…not a huge deal and not something that separated him.

I think it’s the position.  The value of SS over CF.  That’s my assumption.

And as someone else mentioned (can't remember the poster) Holliday is a left handed bat and Druw Jones bats righty.

So, if it's close between two players then left handed and switch hitters may get preference with the new left field wall at OPACY.
