Going to miss Kevin, Jim, and Ben

Sort of hitting me tonight how much I am going to miss Kevin, Jim, and Ben calling the Orioles game during the playoffs. They are a great team, and they bring a tremendous knowledge of the Orioles to the broadcast, and warmth. The national playoff broadcasts just wont be the same.

We are spoiled with how good they are.  My gut tells me Kevin won't be back next year.

I will miss them very much, but at least we'll probably get to see some of them during the O's Xtra Postseason pre & post-game shows throughout the playoffs.

We are so fortunate to have those 3 as broadcasters.

I think MASN will have post game coverage after the playoff games so I would imagine Kevin and maybe Ben and Jim will be involved with that.

I have loved Jim's commentary for years, but this year, Ben has really caught on with me and my family in a big way. We go around the house in our daily lives imitating some of his signature quips. My wife is from Louisiana, so she is especially fond of his humor. 

And we're lucky to have Kevin.

There was a moment in today’s game that was a great example of how good Kevin Brown is.   Aaron Hicks attempted to bunt for a hit, and Brown called it something like this, as the play was happening: “Hicks lays down a bunt — and the former college shortstop Gray makes the play look pretty easy.”   

To make that call, Brown (1) had to know that Gray was a former college shortstop, and (2) have the presence of mind to drop that little piece of information in real time just as it became relevant.   And he didn’t hit us over the head with it, he just succinctly threw it in to his description of the play.  That is a professional at work.

I felt like Ben made some quiet but large strides this year as an analyst. And I love and respect Jim, but my favorite broadcast team at the moment is Kevin and Ben. They just have a very easy, natural rapport.

They had me laughing earlier in the year when they were showing some photos of past Orioles #1 draft choices.. and Ben’s photo was the only one in black-and-white. “How could you do me dirty like that? You know, they did have color back then.”

It truly is amazing how fortunate we are to have this announcing crew (except for what's her name). And it is also amazing how bad other teams' announcers are, especially the color guy.
