Well Said...too much for a good butg not great player. Way too much..now I would like to see AM be aggressive. There are good players available, to steal from Ozzie, right player, right place...now get to work Andy.

I'm not going to bash anything you said here. I think you said what you were feeling, and you did a nice job.

I agree with your premise that we need to get a difference maker in this lineup. I thought Holliday may not have been the perfect fit, but he would have been a very good fit for this team in that it would have allowed us to use some "inventory" of outfielders to help fill other positions.

All that being said, the 7 year commitment would have been a bit much for my tastes. I would have offered him 5 years at 92/95 million because I think he's going to be a productive player through his age 35 season. Those extra 2 years could be killers.

I'm glad it's over with. I wish he was in black and orange. I'm just very glad he's not in Boston or New York.

Perhaps, though I am guessing they'll simply see his cost at that time as "part of doing business" in today's baseball, a sunken cost. The latter years of most free agent contracts are always going to be less positive for the team/club, but you have to pay these type contracts to get the premium talent. Apologies (to Mashed Potatoes), but "it is what it is".

-- Wigginton/Atkins > Beltre

Not to mention we save a whole lot of money.

I could see Reimold/Scott better than Holliday...afterall Nolan put up a 831 last year and all indications are that he will get better. After almost 2000 at bats in a non Coors field Holliday put up a 800.

The second part, I'm not so sure.

Orioles want LaRoche for 2 years...But if SF is willing to give him similar money/years, I would guess he goes there.

Would you be happy with a two year deal for LaRoche? Not that I know much, but it seems like Snyder will be a similar bat (from an opposite side of the plate, or course).

      Wet Leg has won three Grammys! Pixies considered mainstream now? I'm an Iron Maiden fan from way back. Singer/Songwriter folk artists like Bob Dylan, Suzanne Vega and Tracy Chapman. It's just finding stuff on the periphery is more rewarding.

      Farewell to Ryan McKenna, claimed on waivers by the Giants after being DFA'd the other day. We all have followed his career since his great 2018 season at Frederick. Ryan Mountcastle,  Cedric Mullins, and Nick Vespi are now the three remaining members of the Orioles 2015 draft class still in the organization.

      I can see Adley aging on the Posey curve. He probably has until age 35 before he will hang up the spikes/be a negative valued baseball player. IMO Adley's defense is average, he has a below average throwing arm. But his bat is excellent. And there is no arguing that his presence has made a tremendous impact since the very first day that he stepped onto a Major League field for the O's. Gunnar may not extend because of Boras and the same may turn out to be the case for Holliday. But that should not preclude us from locking up the other guys who prove to be special. Right now Adley is that IMO and Westburg appears to be working his way toward that. But even if we do not extend our own guys, we should bring in others who will sign and impact winning in a positive manner.  Again IMO, not spending and cutting cost is not the way to go for franchise viability/growth. Customers/fans are more informed than ever and have more entertainment options than ever. Your message to them cannot be come out to see the Orioles just because we are the Orioles or "Hey we will probably win more than we lose (like the Rays) but won't make any real efforts to seize opportunities (by spending) when they are there." San Diego doesn't have a problem with fan engagement/attendance even though they don't/haven't won big because they have captured the attention of that market and become relevant by signing star players. And showing their fanbase that they are invested. I am not saying that I want to be like the Padres, but I certainly want the O's to be/remain relevant in this market (like they are now). Every time I take my kids to games, they are excited to go (in particular my youngest). That is how you capture the next generation of O's fans - by being relevant. 3 years ago I couldn't get my kids to go to an Orioles game no matter what! Conversely, I have never had that issue with the Ravens. They've always wanted to attend their games (even practices/training camp).

      I see Toronto has lost the first two to Tampa for a 3-game losing streak after John Schneider's emotional proclamation of a "big win for May 14th" Monday night. They were up 4-0 with Gausman heading into the 6th today, but....nope.
