Reynolds: "I would assume that I'll probably be gone"

What about Morse? Nats are shopping him hard.

I wonder why? It's amazing when teams want to get rid of such good players. It's not like the Nationals have a budget or anything. They print money, and spend it like crazy. They have the best pitching on the planet. And they made it to the divisional round of the playoff last season.

Anyone you are a fan of that we could have for 2/16 that plays great defense at 1st base and 30-40hr power like Reynolds?

I wuld have thought James Loney would be a popular choice. He get''s on base at a decent clip, doesn't strike out much, and most importantly he should be Cheap

I like Mark a lot and will be sad if he's not back. I really loved watching him play 1st and I believe he'll go back to hitting 35-40 homers next year. If the homers and high OBP are there I can live with the K's. Considering he's going to be hitting 6th, 7th or 8th I don't know what more you can ask for out of those spots. I'm also not fond of there being no communication. I know it's a business and they have until midnight but it just feels dirty to me.

Mark was worth .8 WAR during his 2 years with us. A win is worth about 5 million. So statistically, that would be an 11 million dollar over payment. Now, he could be better his next 2 years. And the seeds are awesome. As are the 600 ft moonshots. But I guess someone thinks we should spend that 11 million differently. Or stick it in their own pocket. Either theory can work.

That is with his horrible defense at 3B. How much would hi defense have effected his overal WAR, with similar defense that he showed at 1B over that span?

Not much difference. First base requires a much higher standard.

That's true but Reynolds was historically bad at third, however I don't think WAR reflects Reynolds true value as the defensive metrics still rate him pretty poorly despite the fact that so many people thought he was very good at first.

    • My “comfort index” is currently: Extremely High -none- High Coulombe Webb Cano Perez Medium Kimbrel Akin Low Baumann Need More Info Suarez If Kimbrel is healthy, I might have more comfort. If Suarez makes a successful conversion and Wells gets healthy and moves to pen, we could actually have a really good pen. Irvin could contribute as well if Grayson returns and takes his spot in the rotation. We need a strong pen in the playoffs.
    • Pretty incredible Bradish threw today. Maybe his tear wasn’t too bad. Either way, hope he stays healthy. We’re a World Series contender if we have Burnes, Brad, and Rod in October
    • Funny how Mullins’ and Cowser’s numbers go down when we play them versus LHP. That’s gonna happen. They should be platooning with Hays/Mckenna.
    • He gave up a couple seeing eye singles, but also allowed the first home run of his professional career, a two-run shot. Then went back to striking guys out and getting ground balls. Hit 96 MPH and had a real nice change going at time. He was taken out after 67 pitches (70 seems like the Low-A pitch count so far), striking out 10 and left a runner on 1st that didn't score. I'd really like to see them extend his pitch count some and challenge him against High-A ball hitters.
    • He looks like he’s coming into his own and starting to live up to the hype.  He will be a test, for sure.
    • How would making him a reliever help if he is giving it up in the first?
    • If Cowser keeps it up, his name won't be in the lineup much anyway and it will be back to Hays most likely. Since April 15th he's 8-47 with 1 XBH and 24Ks to 6BB. People complaining about Cedric should chill out. I was hoping for a .780 range OPS and now that's looking like I might have gone too high.
