  1. 1. Do you like the Davies for Parra trade?

    • I approve. A small price to pay to fix the O's OF hole with a quality veteran.
    • I disapprove. The O's gave up up a pitching prospect for a rental who won't move the needle.

All I know is that since coming to the Orioles, Parra has morphed from solid a .328/.369 /.886 baseball player to a .214/.283/.616 wimp.

Coming into today, Cespedes has OPS'd four points less in an almost identical number of ABs since joining the Mets: .612. I can tell you out here in Queens that no Mets fan is calling him a wimp.

Just like Cespedes helps the rest of the lineup and stabilizes the OF, I'm very glad to have Davis back at first, Parmalee/Snider gone, and a dependable defender with a great arm in RF. Let's give him more than 11 games to see if he can get hot again with the bat.

While I would agreee with you in principle, not to many Mets fans are sweating what they gave up for Cespedes as their farm system is far better.

I would argue that most of the angst about Parra revolves around the fact we gave up one of the few good pieces we have for him. If we had 8-10 other guys of similar talent to Davies like the Mets have.....we might be complaining that he has not lived up to expectations but the vitrole would be far less.

Good synopsis, spot on sir.

and of course the Mets are actually going to the playoffs

Parra could have OPS'ed .900 and the O's would still have missed the playoffs

giving up a prospect for a player that wasn't going to influence the standings was why I was opposed to the trade. It's 2013 and Scott Feldman all over again. All we gave up then was a future Cy Young Award winner

Who wasn't going to be that guy if he had stayed.

So, i was looking at Parra's stats and I guess it kind of shocked me that he is batting .216 with a .286 OBP. But after his last run scored tonight ahead of the Davis HR, Parra is

scoring a run in 85% of his games played. Manny is our leader in runs scored, but he is only scoring runs at 64% of his games played. Granted, Parra's numbers are on a small sample size. But even with his .216/.286, he has made a difference. It just

seems like Parra gets on base at the right times.... or that our hitters take advantage of his times when he does reach base. Am I nuts? I love the addition of Parra.

    • I don't believe Mike Torrez fits the category of being past his prime when he was with the Orioles. He pitched only one season for Baltimore.  All he did that year was start 36 games, completing 16 of them, pitching a total of 270 2/3 innings and going 20-9 with an ERA of 3.06.  He would go on to pitch another nine seasons in the majors and win another 104 games before he was done.
    • Hitting, defense, and offensive depth were three of the things I was least worried about going into the season and then by the end of it, they were all I could think about.  I'm a lot more skeptical of the coaching than I usually am when things are going wrong.  The team seemed to completely lose focus, took a ton of poor hitting approaches.  I think a very young team is great but they needed something or someone to make them gel and keep a competitive spirit. And that's why, I'm calling it now, our biggest offseason signing will be bench coach Michael Jordan.
    • Blake Snell is an FA. So is our own Corbin Burnes. Here are some other FAs - Pete Alonso, Alex Bregman, Nathan Eovalidi, (possibly) Gerrit Cole, Rhys Hoskins,Marcell Ozuna, Max Fried, Ryan Pressly, Shane Bieber, Willy Adames, Justin Turner, David Robertson, Christian Walker, Walker Buehler, Tanner Scott, Freddy Peralta, Jurickson Profar and of course Juan Soto. Just to name some of the guys who may be able to help us. **These names are all according to spotrac.**
    • Game 2 was officially the lowest home playoff attendance at Camden Yards ever.
    • Criticizing Hyde’s pitching decisions in the series holds very little water in my opinion. He let Burnes go 8+, which is what you do with an ace who is dealing. He let Eflin only go twice through the lineup and took him out when matchup appropriate, which is what you do with a mid-rotation guy who doesn’t really have his A stuff. And he then piecemealed his way through Game 2, which is what you do when you have a bunch of mostly interchangeable relievers who all have platoon splits against a lineup that also has fairly significant platoon splits.  All of it worked. 3 runs allowed in 2 games will be hands down the second-best pitching performance in the WC round. The pitchers and the deployment were not the problem. They were not even a problem. The biggest mistake Hyde made in the series became even bigger because he repeated it again today. Pitching to Witt with a runner on 3rd and a base open was inexcusable. And he did it twice. It’s the kind of thing that a casual fan on a couch knows you can’t possibly do against a team like KC — you cannot let Bobby Witt Jr. beat you. And we did. Twice. They have a bona side superstar and then a few other good players. We absolutely had the ability to take him out of the game. And we just chose not to. Beyond that, I think not having McCann bunt in the 3rd inning of Game 1 was the biggest mistake. I hate bunting as a general rule, but McCann was always going to be a massive K risk against Ragans. Taking a smaller but more “guaranteed” positive outcome seems like a better choice than praying that somehow McCann gets a knock off Ragans. I get the critique of letting Cowser hit. I don’t think I could have brought myself to do it, and I don’t believe most managers could have either. But I get the rationale and I can’t really argue too much with it.
    • Crushing for a Lego enthusiast. He had a good year.      The team will disappoint if Adley and Gunnar don't do more in these spots. I think we'll mostly be happy if Holliday and Mayo in '25, and Basallo in '26 can play as well as Cowser in '24, minus the clutch kryptonite.
