Thread we'll see if that happens: "Why does Elias always rush prospects!"

I don't care if Adley goes 0-4 tonight and allows a passed ball. Many players have started out slow and there's nothing left to learn for him in the minor leagues.

Got to give these guys time.Witt seems to be getting a little better each day. Torkelson has not been good. But some top prospects become stars. Most are average. Some fail badly.

I expect nothing less than a HR from the left & right side.  Anything else is obviously an utter failure.

None of the number one picks in the draft since 2012 have become stars except for Carlos Correa taken in 2012 .  Some have been disasters.. Mark Appel comes to mind

Adley will need to continue to work hard to be a star .. very few MO players reach that.

True Cal was younger from a development point of view, but he was also coming off a season at AAA with a .919 OPS in 1981. If Adley starts out cold in his first 40 at bats it's not time to panic (at least yet).

I have no idea if a 919 in the International league in 1981 was impressive or not.

Probably I guess?

Good article on Rutschman and what to expect from him.

What to expect from Adley Rutschman

Quote

If that was all, he’d still be really, really good. As my colleague Jim Callis has often said, if somehow Rutschman couldn’t catch, he still could have a Mark Teixeira-like career. For those of you who don’t remember, Teixeira hit over 400 homers and drove in close to 1,300 runs.

But here’s the thing. Rutschman isn’t just a catcher. He’s a Gold Glove-caliber one, with a hose for an arm. He’s thrown out 31 percent of potential basestealers, he blocks and receives very well and pitchers can’t say enough about how much they love working with him. He leads behind the plate and that rapport will be important as the young arms in the system come up. (We’re looking at you, Grayson Rodriguez and DL Hall.)

Who knows, but from what I read he is more Catcher/Defense skilled at the moment than he is a hitter.  If true, with his work ethic, his hitting should be more than enough  very soon.  And his ability to work with the Pitchers is sorely needed here.  If he is 70% as good, Now, as his hype, it is a Grandslam Homer in the bottom of the ninth  and then some.

    • Unless one of Cowser, Heston or Stowers wakes up one morning as a RHed batter or switch hitter, I don't think the veteran OFs are going anywhere. Urias and Mateo are a different story. One of them should go tp clear a roster spot. For me, Urias is an easy choice to be the one sent packing, whether with nothing in return or a lottery-ticket pitching prospect who throws hard (or two), but I understand that others disagree. And maybe they're both gone. One of the unknowables about this team is whether Jackson Holliday can be a useful part of it later this season.
    • The Orioles always seem to give a guy the day off after his first day back post-injury. They've done that with a lot of guys on the ML team, and I suspect they are just treating Holliday very carefully.
    • Wow its finally here. I've been looking for this since January thanks for posting.
    • We REALLY need to get Suarez out of this rotation. It's been fun, but he's hitting a wall and really should be a reliever. Kremer soon, I guess.
    • Yeah it would, then the question is . What is their definition of “ off the rails “ ?  Either way, we get the answer within 30 days
    • You totally negate your argument to keep him when you say you don't think he would return anyone that would make it worthwhile. I think Mountcastle is a good clubhouse guy and has been a very solid player.  I was happy that the Orioles moved Mancini to Houston to make room for Mountcastle.  A similar move here could be beneficial.   The situations are not identical.  Mancini was a pending free agent and even though the Orioles were in the hunt of a playoff, they were not considered a contender.  So moving Mancini brought us back useful pieces AND allowed Mountcastle to step in. IF the Orioles move Mountcastle, they need to get SP or RP to help now, right?  It would be pretty ballsy to trade him for minor league pitching depth only.  I think Kjerstad or Mayo could outhit him the rest of the way, but I just don't think you move him unless it is for pitching that can help now. And to your point, I think Mountcastle could return pitching help.  Absolutely.
    • There are times I forget that Ryan Mountcastle is only 27-years-old and we have 2.5 years of control remaining.  It seems like he should be close to 29-30.
