With 78 losses, Boston would max out at 84-78.

That isn't good enough to catch Tampa or Toronto.

Seattle and Texas play each other 7 times so at least one of those teams will win 88, and Boston can't catch that team.

And Boston can't catch Houston, who has 85 wins.

So Boston is eliminated.

Boston can still tie Seattle or Texas, right, so they must have a tie-breaker over one of them if MLB is still showing them as 1?

Curious to see from a stamina perspective because he's well above any amount of innings pitched in his career between AAA and Baltimore this year.   He's at 151.2. The next highest total in his professional career is 103, that was 2021.  Pitch load doesn't have much to do with it at this point.

I'm not qualified enough to know when players are having mental letdowns, but a lot of other posters seem to be.

He sure looks like he could go another 100 innings.  But I guess we'll have to see.

Everyone on the internet is a doctor, psychologist, general manager, and coach all at once, didn't you know?

They can't catch Toronto.  Even if they catch 1 of Seattle or Texas, that still leaves them at the 7th seed.  Seattle and Texas play each other.  Someone has to win those games.  So Boston cannot catch both of them which is what they would need to be able to do.

They are eliminated.   Yes, they can tie Texas or Seattle if one of them loses out.   But at best that would be for the #4 wild card spot.   They can't catch Tampa or Toronto or Houston.   And they can't catch whoever doesn't lose out between Texas and Seattle (who play each other 7 times).

I see what you mean now.

First, though he only threw 95 pitches, that’s still 8 ups and downs with all the warmup pitches in between.  Second, he’s pitching on only four days’ rest for he first time since early August.   Third, he’s nearly 50 innings beyond his prior career high.   So, there’s plenty of reason to worry how his stamina will be tonight.   Hopefully it won’t bother him, but it might.

Just worry about your own stamina
