Cody Sedlock (Merged with: Sedlock sold to Tigers in July 2022)

I consider that a pretty decent outing considering he had to overcome three errors. The walks aren't good but it's kind of tough when you're having to get an extra out every inning.

"Sedlock has made five outings of three innings each, going 0-1 with an ERA of 3.00. In 15 innings, he has allowed nine hits and five runs with eight walks and 14 strikeouts.

“He’s been good,” Orioles director of player development Brian Graham said. “I’ve seen him in game action as well as several bullpens. He’s got a four-pitch mix with plus velocity. Good changeup and two breaking balls that both work. He’s pitched from 93 to 96 (mph).”

Sedlock was drafted 27th overall in June out of the University of Illinois and was signed to a slot bonus of $2,097,200. In 14 starts in college this season, he went 5-3 with a 2.49 ERA and 116 strikeouts over 101 1/3 innings.

“Based on the fact he threw 100 innings in college, he’ll be throwing three innings per outing this summer,” Graham said. “We have a six-man rotation right now at Aberdeen. It’s a great format because it allows him to pitch, have two days off, throw a bullpen, then have two days off and pitch in a game.

“It is just about him getting experience in professional baseball this summer. He is going to end up at about 130 innings, which will give us a few more for instructional league. With young pitchers, new pitchers and our full-time starters in the minor leagues, 140 innings is about the max you want to extend them to.”

Matt had it all at one time. Glad to see he is doing well:thumbsup1:

Yes he did. He was friendly when our fast pitch clubs matched up. I think he got roped into coaching the girls due to a shortage of coaches. His roster wasn't all that great but he seemed to enjoy it. I'm not sure he's going to be coaching his daughters club this fall which is about to start.

3 walks in only 3 innings.

He did do something that was very impressive ...... in the bottom of the 1st inning with runners on 2nd and 3rd base and nobody out, he struck out the side.

The defense behind him made 3 errors in only 3 innings, 1 of which was one of the runners that he stranded in the bottom of the 1st inning.

o

Sedlock retired 7 out of the final 8 batters that he faced.

His control was slightly better in this game than it was in his previous one, but he still walked 2 batters in only 3 innings and had an average Strikes-to-Balls ratio.

Maybe time to shut him down. How many pitches has he thrown in college/pro this year? Hopefully somebody is monitoring this stuff.

They are fully aware of his innings. He's on a 3-inning plan where he will start every five days and pitch three inning stints. That will give him about 30 pro innings on top of the 101 he tossed in college. The other college starters they drafted early (Akin and Dietz) are on the same plan.

Do you think they will participate in the Instructional League?
