Machado or Arenado?

Listening to Jim Bowden earlier this week and he thinks Arranado is the best defensive 3rd baseman EVER defensively. His numbers are Coors skewed offensively. Given the choice, do you take Machado or Nolan?

It depends on what fielding metrics you find most important. If you're a big believer in defensive runs saved, Arenado has been the best defensive 3B over the last four years while Manny is #2. If it's UZR/150, Manny's ranks #2 only behind Juan Uribe while Arenado ranks sixth. And if you believe in defensive runs above average, Manny is #1 while Arenado ranks fourth. I would favor Machado but they're both great. An argument can be that Juan Uribe has been just as good defensively as Machado at 3B but he just hasn't the opportunity to play the position as much.

I am not sure if this can be gleaned from defensive stats but Machado seems to not go to his left as well as he does his right. There have been more than a few times when balls were hit to his left that I thought off the bat he would get and he didn't get to it.

I don't see Arrenado enough to know if he is better defensively. Offensively, I'll take Manny.

it's Manny and it is not even that close imo. Manny makes plays that no other third baseman can make because of his arm. Arrenado is just as good when fielding the ball but there are plays Manny makes that if you Nolan did the same exact thing the runner beats out because Manny's arm is stronger. On offense Manny is better because of Nolan's huge home away splits.

I honestly haven't seen enough of Arrenado but it clear he's very good and among the best in the game. saying that, I see Machado just about every game and I wouldn't trade him for any other third baseman one for one.

For just the small amount of time Manny is still under control? I'd take Donaldson.

Kris Bryant- 7.0fWAR .407wOBA 155wRC+ 5.4BsR 6.3UZR@3B

Manny Machado- 5.6fWAR .378wOBA 137wRC+ -0.2BsR 14.4UZR@3B

Both are 24, Manny is under contract for 2 more years; Kris is under contract for 5 more years.

Yeah. Base running is not really a thing. I'd take Machado for two. Also, as a Cubs fan, I understand why you would like Bryant for five.
