Yup, some of the best fishing I've ever done has been at night. But you better know your surroundings because you can't see a dang thing when you are cruising the water. The jetty that JF's boat struck was basically invisible as they were cruising along. They never saw it coming.

I'd buy that but the jetties at Government Cut (Miami) is well known to boaters. Been there 100 years or more. It's also a slow area as it's entrance to Port of Miami. Looks like alcohol or stupidity by driver.

That's so terrible. He seemed like a guy that really had a lot of fun playing a game he dominated.

It seems likely, but the police/coroner will tell us if alcohol was involved. Was anyone else in the boat?

The press conference said they got a call in at 3 am. That may not have been when it wrecked. Maybe they were called because the boat was supposed to dock at a certain time but did not come in so they called for missing boat or someone else boating else boating was coming in or going out and noticed it on rocks and called accident in.

Lorenzo Veloz of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirmed that, telling reporters mid-morning that the 32-foot SeaVee was traveling full speed when it struck the rocks, according to the AP. There was no evidence of alcohol or illegal substances and Fernandez, he added, was not wearing a life vest.

So young and such a talent, jeez ... RIP

Also, the today's game against the Braves has been cancelled.

he 320 Series performs well with two 300hp motors yielding a top speed somewhere between 50 – 55 mph depending on boat layout and engine choice. For those seeking a higher level of performance, twin 350 or even 400 hp motors are available. Expect a top speed between 55 – 65 mph with only a modest increase in fuel costs.

Those are ridiculous speeds to be going in the dark. You just never know what is out there, log, another boat with no lights, and probably in this case, you arent exactly where you think you are and so you hit the rocks when you thought you were 300 yds to the right. So sad, boating and water in general are grossly unappreciated for the dangers. Thoughts and prayers for the family and friends.
