It’s not like Gunnar is the consensus no. 1, either.  For example, Eric Longenhagen has him at no. 5.   Regardless, we all know he’s a very good prospect.  Bregman?

1st, 2nd, 5th..whatever.  When you are ranked that highly, you are going to be expected to do big things.  I’m guessing McDaniel doesn’t think 275/25 is his ceiling.

For the consensus # 1 or 2 overall prospect in baseball? A tad. Maybe I'm being greedy.

Do you think there's a huge difference between .280 30 and .275 25?  Machado is a .280/30 hitter while being a top-2 defender at 3B and might end up in the hall of fame.  Position matters quite a bit.

Machado, Devers and Arenado are all around .300 with 20-25 HRs right now.  Riley and Ramirez are having great seasons, too.  There are other good 3B out there.  If Gunnar was a .275/25 guy he'd be just under the star players at the position.

When the entire organization is headed towards the same goal, it’s easy to accomplish things.

Astros surely tried this and couldn’t lock guys up.  We know the Rays have done similar and a couple of times had success, but nothing like this.  There are lots of organizations as good as the Braves that can’t seem to get a bunch of extensions like this.
