Nice work as usual. Not a real big fan of the team's pitching, but Bentz and Colon are impressive. Someone wrote an article yesterday about how USA had no talent this year, I guess that depends on if you know how to look for talent huh?

Yeah, that's a little surprising. I don't think it's star-studded, necessarily, but potentially three of the top five pitchers in college baseball are on it (Pomeranz, Gray, Cole). Colon is probably the top college shortstop and Brentz might be the top outfielder. Good power with Wilkins, Grandal, Forsythe. I like the squad a lot.

Yeah, I mean I might not have been too excited at first glance if I hadn't been big on Bentz and Colon (although I'm not convinced the bat will convey). But then when I started looking into next year I like Pomeranz, Gray I think I like more as a closer, jury is still out, and Cole I like too, not just because he walked away from the Yanks either.

I think it's a solid team though, I gotta find that article again, but I think it might have been Law, and you all know how I feel about that guy by now.

Very nice Stotle, I really like Sonny Gray, though Ill admit Ive never heard much about him aside from the name. His stuff seems to have amazing promise, he just needs to control it.

I'll be looking to see how he holds up over 100+ IP this year (he was a closer to start last year, which kept his innings down). He has the pure stuff to be the best pitcher in college ball this year, and the #1 pick in 2011. Should be fun to watch. As I wrote, his size might be a concern, though maybe he proves durable, along the lines of a Roy Oswalt. I originially thought pen, but his change-up was pretty filthy -- I'd hate to see that three-pitch mix end up in relief.

I wish there was a college guy like this in the 2010 draft towards the top. There havent been too many college pitchers with electric stuff lately, who werent underperforming(Paxton) atleast not in the 2009 or 2010 drafts so far.

There was a San Diego State kid in the '09 class that had pretty good stuff. :)

Oh that Strasburg kid? Man hes nobody, Ackley is going to be better than him ;)

On a serious note, I forgot about him, I guess its because I knew we never had a chance of drafting him, so whenever I thought of the 09 draft, it excluded him....

Yeah I noticed that, kinda makes you want to not really turn the corner yet next year you know?

I disagree. A deep draft means you're getting good talent later in the first round, anyway. With what I've observed in Jordan's drafting style, I think he could do very well in the mid- to late-round picks. I think Baltimore's stated desire not to spend more than I guy is worth can somewhat handcuff you if there isn't someone like Matusz (talented and willing to sign) or Wieters (uber-talented enough to warrant a big over-slot bonus) available. I think the Orioles will have a good group to choose from next year, particularly if they improve a bit and are drafting in the 8-15 range.

I agree. I think I wrote somewhere that Mike Leake could win the Golden Spikes award -- that's how tuned out I was to Strasburg (both because I knew he wasn't a draft possiblity and because so many people had already written so much on him).

Yeah, I was leaving him out of my rankings as well. He was just a foregone conclusion. I imagine next year I will forget about Harper.
