Roch: Matusz Traded (along with draft pick)

Smart move by the Braves.

Have no idea who the other players are but I expect they are just cover since you can't actually sell the draft picks.

At least he got more than 2.5M this time.

So that makes three draft picks Dan gave up for this next draft.

No big deal the Angels farm system is still worse, who needs picks?

Well both of the pitchers we got (former 16th round picks) have progressed further than DJ Stewart will ever progress.

No, because Dan sold another draft pick.

I predicted Dan would sell the pick to the Braves as soon as I found out the Braves were in the market for them.

It's okay, prospects are overrated. (Sarcasm)

Very happy to see Matusz gone finally though, that might be worth the pick.

Not like they couldn't DFA him.

They valued cash over the pick.

Don't sign Gallardo and Alvarez if you can't afford to cut a guy in May.

The Orioles are still cheap but just dumb cheap. Rather than just DFA Matusz and eat the cost and keep the pick, they trade the pick to save the money.

Would the Orioles vaunted scouting department do better than these two players with the 76th pick?

DD has a budget, proof of it.

Is the 76th pick really worth $3 Million and two minor leaguers that look like more than warm bodies? Color me surprised.

Anybody have an article projecting the value of draft picks?

Dodgers bought one (from Dan) for 2.5M a couple years ago.

So I'm thinking it's around market value.

It's a small sample size since Dan is evidently the only GM that thinks selling the picks is a good idea.
