I think maybe there's some redundancy with Kjerstad & Mayo... and between the two, I'd obviously prefer Mayo.

So I went with Cowser. Obviously a lot of it depends on who's comin' back 🤨

You can never have enough elite middle of the order hitters (what both of them are projecting/profiling towards).

I've been a big fan of Kjerstad since we drafted him. I think he's the massive lefty bat we've been missing since Prime CD. If it really came down to keeping one or the other - meaning another organization thought of them both exactly equally - I think it's an easy decision to keep Kjerstad. I just have a hard time thinking that either one will be a centerpiece in a controllable SP trade.

Well, yeah... I'd prefer to keep them both depending on the return, which was assumed to be "enough" for the purposes of this exercise.

Everybody is touchable for the right price. I mean if the Red Sox offered prime Pedro Martinez for Adley or Holliday you would be a fool to turn that down. Except the Red Sox would never offer that.  I would in fact trade either Kjerstad or Cowser for a controllable TOR Starter. Problem is we aren't getting that with either of those guys as the centerpiece. You would likely have to trade Holliday and another top prospect, if not 2 other top prospects for a controllable TOR starter.

Kjeratad.  I want to see someone hit the warehouse before I die.

In the system right now, I think Gunnar has the best chance to do it. Ohtani is the guy who probably has the best chance right now in all of baseball.

When Gunnar grows into his man strength around 25, look out.

Right now I envision Kjerstad having a Justin Morneau-ish career. Had it not been for the mycharditis, he may be the guy currently occupying that platoon of 1B/OF/DH that Ant has for them this year. So far this year he's seen 20 games 1B, 18 at DH and 38 in the outfield. I can see him putting together a string of five or six really strong years as did Morneau but I think ultimately Cowser is the better/more valuable player long-term.

Cowser has sucked in the very small sample size since he's come up so I voted for him mainly to neutralize recency bias.  The way I really feel is that if one has to be traded - and only for quality controllable pitching at that - I don't care.  Keep any two of Cowser, Kjerstad and Mayo and trade the other.

Yeah but I aint in the mood to try to mentally figure out which first round pick I would rather keep if I had to trade one.  Its a made up situation.  Its pointless.  I would rather keep both.

And now Cowser has a tiny sample size and people will be screaming to keep Kjerstad.  LOL   Its okay if your bored today and have nothing to think about then this.  Not quite debating imaginary trades but almost.

I don't understand the need to troll and/or belittle the OP's topic.  I see it all the time and wonder why that is. You literally said, " Its a made up situation.  Its pointless." and " Its okay if your bored today and have nothing to think about then this."

  1. It's made up, but with purpose, like much of what we talk about here.
  2. Not pointless to everyone that responded.
  3. If you are bored and have nothing else to complain about, try finding something else to do, rather than troll threads.

If Cowser is up here hitting .360, he's the one that everyone wants to keep.

Should do Cowser vs. Kjerstad vs. Mayo.

I hear you and thought about his SSS performance thus far, and suspect that could sway opinions.  We're only human, after all.  I for one, am ignoring Cowser's performance thus far... or am I? Hmmmm... 😉

You mentioned the word platoon in your post. You are not suggesting that Kjerstad would be a platoon player are you?

If Cowser turns out to be better than Justin freaking Morneau then he's gone after 6 seasons. If he's that good then somebody is paying him 35 million a year.

There is NO PLAYER that could command Holliday PLUS Kjerstad. Not even Ohtani.

Are you serious with the Holliday, plus 2 top prospects? Could you provide insight as far as precedent regarding this type of trade? What specific "controllable TOR" starter(s) could command the type of asking price that you describe? Has that ever happened before?

Yea, cuz nobody would be stupid enough to trade a guy like prime Randy Johnson or Pedro Martinez. Holliday with either Cowser/Kjerstad? Yep, making that trade any day and twice on Sunday.

Virtually every player on the roster right now with the exception of Hays has experienced some platooning by rotating between positions in the field and DHing or not playing against certain pitchers (L/R). But that's not necessarily what I meant. I meant that I think if he had not experienced the health issues, I'll speculate that Santander may have been moved and Kjerstad is rotating between OF/1B/DH as Santander has done this year.

    • It’s O’s and Yanks. Good guys versus bad guys. Baby Birds up against the Evil Empire — and another trip to the post-season is in the cards. I’ve been cheering for the O’s and very specifically against the Yanks going on six decades, and I’m getting good at it. So, yeah. I’m fired up. Now ask me about hopes and dreams. I don’t think this Orioles team is going to make a run to WS this year.  They have scuffled, they have failed — but I’m reminded, even in the platinum age of data — baseball is still a game of failure.  And man, runners in scoring position over the last week, I’m not sure I want to know that number. They’re still my guys. As long as they’re in it, so am I.
    • Let's go Tampa! Actually, I'm fired up for the offseason.
    • Not fired up, per se, but engaged in the ramp-up to playoff baseball. On one hand, it's like the spring training phase of gearing up for playoffs. On the other hand, it's like the playoffs have already begun. We're qualified for round 1, which consists of the next 6 games. Even watching the other teams play now is entertaining, as they jostle for entry to the next round.
    • I really think that Westburg is the difference maker for us. I don't know why, but the offense just doesn't run right without him... like an engine that needs a tune up. I'm glad he's back with a week to go in the regular season.
    • Don't be too hard on yourself OP. We've all been there. For me, I usually hit a frustration point mid-late season and then start to just accept things. Baseball is a very weird, very inscrutable game sometimes. I've driven myself a bit nuts this season with the Adley thing because it's one of those baseball things that just doesn't make a lot of sense. Same with the pitching injuries.  Each season is a little narrative. This one will be the year we had a bunch of injuries, the year of the RISP regression, the year of the rookie struggles, the year of the questionable Elias trades, the year we couldn't follow up on the 100-win season, etc. And yet - it will be a playoff year. And that's the only goal of every regular season: make the playoffs. Hopefully our playoff narrative will change this time around.
    • I’m fired up for sure. We are finally full strength offensively and this stretch of games will be a great way for this team to gel down the stretch. The AL East is still attainable so let’s kick ass from here and see where we land!
    • Westburg is back. Everything is fine now. Enjoy the championship run.
