BTW I would agree.  I would not trade GH for JH.  Not even close.

That is a really good post.  I agree with almost everything that you said.

The only real issue is there have been lots of dads that have trained their sons to be elite in any particular sport.  From tennis to golf to baseball.  The main factor is if the dads do that AND the son is elite athletically.

Obviously TIGER was.  But for every 1 Tiger there are 1,000,000 no names.  You have to have the elite athletic ability to carry you to the next level.

And while I think JH is really good for his age, and a nice kid, I just don't see the athleticism in him that makes him the next super star.  I saw wayyyyy, as in not even close, way more athleticism in Manny at the same age than I do JH.  Gunnar as well.

I hope I am wrong.  But he reminds me more and more of an AI cyborg that was trained to do something much more than the average kid.  And that gave him and advantage growing up.  I don't see 'special'.

My Dad still makes me go to the field every day to work on fielding hitting and throwing. Says I need to hustle like Pete if I’m gonna be better than the next guy. I love it and work just as hard as I can. Then do extra later.

I have BP 325 DL 600. And when I bowl, the Turkeys Fly!!!! I don’t understand why I haven’t made it yet. It’s because my wife isn’t hot enough isn’t it?

Or maybe it’s that I need to hustle like Pete did in the 1970 All Star game, not “hustle” like Pete is today.

Somehow I had a feeling you would discount the accomplishments of a female athlete.

Of course at no point did I begin to suggest they could compete against males.

That has nothing to do with how they were raised with a singular purpose to dominate in a single sport.

You are the one who made the outlandish statements that JH could squat 800 pounds and the Williams sisters are the Tiger Woods of their era just because their dad trained them that way.

The Williams sisters were good because they overpowered their female counterparts due to the fact that they were bigger, stronger, faster.

And we all know why but I will leave that unsaid.  But needless to say it would be like a 20 year old male playing against a 15 year old male when it comes to them.

But in no way shape or form were they more talented female tennis players of all time.

And this is what I am saying about JH despite your obvious bias.  I want JH to be a superstar.  Best player ever.   But I really think he had a huge advantage compared to other kids his age because he was groomed, for lack of a better word, to be a baseball player.   He is obviously a good athlete.  I just dont see elite.  Therefore I think his ceiling is limited.

But in no way do I see elite from him.  In fact his younger brother looks way more athletic to me.

In fact based off this year if you can trade him for a top pitcher?  I absolutely would.

So you can post things about me like "Please stop talking about you.  No one gives a f*** about anything to do with your life, your bowling ball, your wife or anything else you try to pat yourself on the back about.  Your life is meaningless to the rest of us.".

And you said how dumb I am.

When I hadn't mentioned ANY of that in the post that you were responding to. Nothing.    I was talking about ORIOLES.

But I can't reply to any of that?  I never get personal until I am got personal with.

You went there.

I will tell you what....sports guy.  Post your pic.  Any pic. I will post mine....and I have...it is right in my avi. Because I know exactly what you look like.

My guess is that you never will.   And we all know why.

Yea I can post that because it’s true. No one gives a damn about you or anything about you. Just as no one gives a damn about anything about me or my life or Moose or anyone else.

People come here to shoot the shit about baseball..not listen to some douchey guy talk about his life and why we should pat him on the back.

Maybe you just like playing a character on the internet. Maybe you are someone everyone here would enjoy having a drink with.

You actually have some good things to say at times but it’s all clouded by the fact that of how douchey you are. People don’t pay attention to anything you may bring to the table because they don’t respect you.

So just so I'm reading this right, that dude has elite level talent in multiple sports, played them all in college and decided to settle on pro bowling to make 100 grand a year, maybe? Solid choice.

I think he made all his money training horses.

If I can keep the stories straight.

Clearly, people like me. I am a virtuous person.

    • I think the average and perhaps even the OBP of JH may eventually exceed that of Gunnar but the power potential, base stealing and defense will never approach what Gunnar can do. I'd wager that in 20 years or so when we're looking back on their careers, Holliday's highest single season HR total will be somewhere in the 25 - 30 number whereas with Gunnar, good lord, who knows. He could hit 50 this year in his age 23 season with several years left before he reaches his peak. I know that we're acknowledging it but I don't think that folks quite understand what that kid is doing this year.
    • Gunnar was an elite defender at any  IF position you put him at.  Urias and Mateo have been hitting the ball really well recently.  I'm for Mayo, but I don't see how he helps our struggling pitching. This team doesn't have defense issues.  Bringing Mayo up, introduces those issues.
    • Late to thread — but to the original post — I think Kimbrel was a decent stand in as a closer while Bautista heals. But I think the Elias plan was based on a blueprint he was required to with with under previous ownership. The Rubenstein Era is starting with a steep learning curve and no one knows if the budget for payroll will grow a little, a lot or not much.  So, I would say the next steps of whatever Elias wants to do, will be based on discussions with DR on what the budget will look like going forward. If no big changes are happening on the money front, then I think we will start to see more trades. The OP critique is reasonable, but seems a bit early and due more to injuries and a five game skid, as the team has played pretty darn good before the last week. I do wish we would hear more from the front office about payroll investment or whatever their near term goals are (I am sure they like being competitive, I hope they want even more). The O’s are a playoff team — but I agree we look a few arms short for a run at the World Series.
    • Worrying in such circumstances is not ridiculous. Expecting a decline without additions is not ridiculous. You just said we need to make additions. “If the Os don’t make one move we CAN still get into the playoffs.” Going from our current 90+% chance of making the playoffs to “can” is a decline. I didn’t say we wouldn’t make October, I said that if we make no acquisitions we would slowly sink and that we wouldn’t maintain our current pace, which is  pretty clear. I’m surprised you think we would.
    • I underestimated his wheels. Aside from the two triples, he had the jets going in center field at one point.
    • Westburg struggles going to his right on balls at 2B and doesn't have the arm strength to make up for it. He has been solid at 3B at this year which always amazes me that when Urias plays 3B, Westburg moves over there unless it's to give him more experience knowing Mayo is coming. I didn't honestly realize how bad Westburg has played at 2B according to both OAA and DRS. Still, I'd move him to 2B and play Mayo at 3B.
    • Do you believe that Elias had the leeway to sign Montgomery (who has been terrible for ARI) under the awful Scrooge McAngelos?
