The low-80s slider was a key pitch in the second half last year so I'm curious what happened with it.

Found this. Statcast is still calling it a cutter in today's game. His old slider was around the same velocity as his curveball so maybe he tweaked this to make the curveball more unique.

Missed 14 bats today..struck out 7 and had a 65% str%.
 

Jones missed 21(!) bats today.  1/3 of his strikes were missed bats.  That kid has some great stuff.

Just saw that he missed 22 bats in his last (first career) start.

Another really impressive performance today, continues to show the 2nd half of last season was no fluke. Best home grown Starting Pitcher we've developed in some time.

GRod broke an Os record for consecutive starts allowing (I believe) less than 3 ER for pitchers under the age of 25.  Palmer had the record I believe.

Yeah and that’s actually really encouraging. Top 2 in the rotation both battled through mediocre (for them) stuff nicely, on tough weather days.

Most of the heavily lifting being done by Grayson and Burnes. They are the only 2 with quality starts.

Considering he was pitching in the cold and snow, I'll take today's start as a huge plus.  Hard to get a good feel for the changeup when you can't feel your fingers.

I think he might be breathing through his eyelids like the lava lizards of the Galapagos Islands. See, there are some lizards that have a parietal eye behind their heads so they can see backwards.

I think that's what is happening. It's the only thing that can explain it.
