Report: Orioles interested in Padres Andrew Cashner

We won't sign Gallardo because of the pick. We will be fortunate if our 14th pick ends up being as good as Mancini, so to trade him for a one year rental coming off a poor season makes little sense.

I'll take Latos on a two or three year contract if his physical checks out.

If Latos can pass the physical we should be on him.

SD isn't going to compete this year. The best they can hope for is a package at the deadline or a QO pick for Cashner. I say why not trade the Comp pick B in this years draft along with their pick of Wright/Wilson/Paredes/Walker/Urrutia/Roe. Really they could have two of those just not Wright and Wilson.

SD would likely get Wright/Wilson, Walker and around the 90th pick in the draft.

We'd get to keep our #14 pick and add the SP we need.

If we can get a deal done for Cashner, this is the one I want. I don't want to give up Mancini.

Amazing that all this discussion comes from the following:
Keep an eye on the Padres' Andrew Cashner, a free agent after this season who interests the Orioles. He slipped to 6-16 with a 4.34 ERA and 1.440 WHIP in 31 starts last season after going 5-7 with a 2.55 ERA, 1.127 WHIP and two shutouts in 19 starts in 2014.

At this point we don't even have a report that the Orioles and Padres have discussed a trade involving Cashner.

Roch wouldn't throw a "Trade Idea" thread out there without first hearing something. Point well taken that it might have been one failed phone call. That someone heard about...

I think we have a lot of Mike Wrights when it comes to 5th starter/reliever types. Wright may have the best fastball of them all, and I think there is some upside to him from a relief standpoint, but i think he's a commodity we have a lot of in the system. Worley and Wilson are probably ahead of him in the 5th starter's job and Triggs and Lee are right there behind him.

I like Mancini more than Walker myself and think he will be a better major leaguer, but he's limited to first base, right-handed hitter who only has one good minor league season under his belt. If I can get a major league starter who can help me win this year I'm going to do that. I personally think the Orioles can compete this season so if I can get a solid starter for Wright and Mancini I would make the trade.

This is exactly where I am! RIGHT NOW we can still win this year. It's why I'm 100% for the Davis deal. O'Day deal. Mancini and Wright are a tough price but we STILL need to fill Chen's innings. Cashner 31 starts last year.

This is also why I'm all in on Gallardo. And I think I think... DD is waiting him out. Till his price, and more importantly his years come down. I mean, it's way after midnight now, pitchers and catchers report in 2 weeks! tick tock tick tock. Pick be damned, Gallardo on a 3 year deal is my dream.

Latos > Cashner > Gallardo

but it's relative. If Latos' knee is still shot, I don't want him. If the Orioles have to give up a legit prospect for Cashner I'd rather give up the pick for Gallardo.

Are you taking into account Latos' and his bad clubhouse reputation?

Memory had me convinced I saw Stu Miller blown off the mound at Memorial Stadium, until I read that it happened in Candlestick during an AS game that wasn't televised.

Retrosheet probably disappointed many people for exactly that reason. I think we all have false baseball memories similar to that. There are probably many thousands of people in jail because of very detailed eyewitness accounts of things that never happened, and yet nobody was lying.

The Reds liked him. Is he worse than Delmon Young or Francisco Rodriquez?

What he said. Remember when Buck interviewed Colby Rasmus? Probably did the same for Latos. You should at least talk to the man before making your judgement.

Woah Woah Woah Delmon is a great dude. Seems like Latos has the "soft" label.

Here's a good list from mlbtr of who is left at SP:

Chad Billingsley (31)

Mark Buehrle (37)

Yovani Gallardo (30)

Jeremy Guthrie (37)

Aaron Harang (38)

Josh Johnson (32)

Mat Latos (28)

Cliff Lee (37)

Tim Lincecum (32)

Kyle Lohse (37)

Cory Luebke (31)

Justin Masterson (31)

Mike Minor (28)

Alfredo Simon (35)

Eric Stults (36)

Randy Wolf (39)

Jerome Williams (34)

No wonder why this Cashner thread will hit 20 pages.
