But seriously, Buehler/Stewart/Ruiz for an elite closer with control past this season is not too much. Buehler is great but Stewart I don't think has ever touched top prospect lists and Ruiz could but if he does it's more so that he's a catcher than anything. I just don't love the value of catchers unless you think they are one of the elites like a Salvy/Posey type.

I agree.  I don't see Britton getting dealt before 7/31.  The dodgers are bidding against themselves right now.  The other relievers getting dealt don't really effect Britton because he's in a different league.  Elite.

I'm not sure the Dodgers are bidding against themselves. I imagine the same teams in on Wilson are in on Britton

I'd do that deal just to get Buehler and Stewart. Instant rotation makeover

Honestly, I think I take that deal as well. Buehler is a top 18 prospect on BP's updated list, Stewart may not be on lists but I do think he can be a very good #3/#4 type and he's ready right now. Then we get an upside spect in Ruiz who is mashing so far this year and could be one of our better prospects in the not so distant future. I think that is actually a good package. Haven't heard that one til now, but I'd be down. Definitely don't think that's too much though personally.

As Lucky said, I don't think they're bidding against themselves. Word is the Cubs are very interested, Houston has been linked as has Washington. Hell, an industry source said the Cubs are the favorites. So they definitely have competition.

So PA just gave DD the green light to trade some relievers.  Is there a point where he would take that back?  2 GB of the WC?

I can't imagine he would, but if we continually get 5-7 IP with 2 ER or less each game for the next couple weeks I'd imagine it would make them think a little. Considering Miley, Ubaldo, Guasman (have hope but he's been so poor this year), and Tillman (ups and downs) are in the rotation I don't see that as possible.

I understand that point of view and I hope you are right.  I'm just concerned that they look at Britton's price tag (if we ask for what I'm suggesting or other big potential returns listed here) and say "well we can get X player for less and he's almost as good".

Kieboom is good enough to be the centerpiece for Wilson.

Wilson just blew a big save last night in a "big game" atmosphere.  Detroit might be trying to get rid of him before he blows another one.

Some O's related chat questions from MLBtraderumors.

Brad Brach would get a better return then David Phelps?

Jeffrey Todd

Similar, but you could argue for Brach f'sho.

Robles for Britton, who says no

With his health uncertainty and iffy performance thus far? No way the Nats do that.

The O's trade Britton to _______ for _______?

Jeffrey Todd

I like the fit with the Dodgers, who can afford to take a risk here. I still don't know just how much value they'll give back, but I expect Britton to come  at a discount as against what we'd have expected him to command in a deadline scenario entering the season.

Sadly most trades kind of end up being meaningless. Even getting two top 50 prospects may have little impact. In 2007, for example, Billy Rowell and Felix Pie were both top 50. :( Not trying to be a party pooper, but couldn't help but think about how pie-in-the-sky some trades can be (pun intended in this case).*

*and yes, I know the O's didn't trade for Pie in 2007, just noticed that he and Rowell were both ranked top 50 BA in 2007. All that glitters is not gold.

    • Hard to argue with a lot of your points. He's had two 1-1 and should have taken Witt over Rutschman and has a poor defensive second baseman with hitting issues with his other one.  He gets one more offseason with bigger pocketbooks. He gets one more year to put up or shutup.
    • Baseball is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall all alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. A. Bartlett Giamatti, Take Time for Paradise: Americans and Their Games
    • Let him walk. That pop up with the bases loaded and no outs sort of encapsulates the entire postseason for us. It was a pathetic effort and we ended up with squat in a clutch situation.  The HRs are cool but he doesn't hit for average and is only getting older. And he sucks in the playoffs. Goodbye.
    • Is Brandon Hyde going to pull out the “ we just need to do a better job” boilerplate or is he coming up with another way to say the same thing?    It’s easy to be snarky right now. There’s choking under pressure and there’s whatever the team has done over the last couple months. “Choke” doesn’t begin to cover the gag they threw up the last two nights when the season was on the line. Fans leaving the stadium right now aren’t just disappointed, many of them feel betrayed. Hard to blame them. I wonder if Elias might feel the same way.
    • I just can't comprehend how the 2023 team PLUS Corbin Burnes devolved into this pile of excrement. This may be a .500, non-playoff team next year. I didn't expect any sort of magical run this playoff season, but I didn't think they'd get embarrassed AGAIN on the national stage.
    • Better yet, where was Adam Frazier when we needed him most.....oh, wait, in the other dugout.    Bases loaded, no one out....sure could have used that guy that Hangouters had to jettison out of here favor of Jackson Holliday.
