How many waiver claims does Elias make in the next few weeks?

Elias has been running the Orioles for a year and a half and in that time he has collected many waive wire types.  Some were claimed, others purchased for next to nothing.    Here are the 23  that are  currently on the 60 man roster:

Pitchers: (12) Armstrong, Lakins, Kohl Stewart, Sulser, Hector Velazquez, Wojo, Blach, Hanhold, Shepherd, Valdez, Zastryzny, Eshelman

Position Players: (11) Severino, Alberto, Ruiz, Urias, Andrew Velazquez, Smith, Taylor Davis,  Holaday, Herrera, Valiaka, Williams

Its hard to think that Elias will not be adding others as teams clear players off their 40 rosters to set their team for 2020.

How many do you think Elias adds?

Its a tough question for me.

Mancini is put on the 60 day IL and Urias is DFA'd to make room for Wilkerson and Valaika.

After that who comes off the 40 man roster to make room for a waiver wire claim?

I don't know what Elias thinks for Hess, Lakins, or Hector Velazquez.   Wynns can probably be DFA'd and resigned to a minor league deal.   What about Smith and when does he come off the Covid list.  He probably can't be DFA'd until he is well.  And if he is DFA'd does the 40 man spot go to Mason Williams.

I think there may be room for 2 or 3 waiver wire claims if Elias likes them better than what he has.

Elias will definitely be looking for starters/long mens in the pen.

We have a ton of AAAA players on our roster. Most of them can easily be sent off for someone he likes better.

Well that is a safe statement because Elias can always add someone he likes better.   But knowing what he thinks of some of the 40 man roster players is a tougher thing to figure out.  And waiver claims by their nature are  players that someone else is not high on.

We just disagree.... Our active roster is full of players that will never be on a winning team

Your list

Pitchers: (12) Armstrong, Lakins, Kohl Stewart, Sulser, Hector Velazquez, Wojo, Blach, Hanhold, Shepherd, Valdez, Zastryzny, Eshelman (Are any of these guys more than mediocre major league players? It’s my thought that Eshelman doesn’t have the stuff and Wojciechowski looked like a long man at best. Would he even make a good teams roster? I’m sure there are lesser guys on this list I don’t pretend to have a ton of knowledge on all of these guys. But most were on the team last year that got pounded nightly.)

Position Players: (11) Severino, Alberto, Ruiz, Urias, Andrew Velazquez, Smith, Taylor Davis,  Holaday, Herrera, Valiaka, Williams  (Same here ... Ruiz probably won’t hit enough, Urias is AAAA, Velazquez ???, Smith JR, Herrera is AAAA, Williams AAAA, and Holoday is just another 3rd string catcher. Did I mention Davis who wouldn’t even be on the team if not for the albatross of a contract that has the team handcuffed.

I don’t understand the anxiety over not having room or concern over losing any of these guys.

Half the guys you are talking about are not even on the 40 man roster. A waiver claim has to go on the 40 man roster.

Mancini is already on the long term DL (it's 45 days this year and not 60) and off the 40 man roster.

I think 2 or 3 is probably right.

    • Hard to argue with a lot of your points. He's had two 1-1 and should have taken Witt over Rutschman and has a poor defensive second baseman with hitting issues with his other one.  He gets one more offseason with bigger pocketbooks. He gets one more year to put up or shutup.
    • Baseball is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall all alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. A. Bartlett Giamatti, Take Time for Paradise: Americans and Their Games
    • Let him walk. That pop up with the bases loaded and no outs sort of encapsulates the entire postseason for us. It was a pathetic effort and we ended up with squat in a clutch situation.  The HRs are cool but he doesn't hit for average and is only getting older. And he sucks in the playoffs. Goodbye.
    • Is Brandon Hyde going to pull out the “ we just need to do a better job” boilerplate or is he coming up with another way to say the same thing?    It’s easy to be snarky right now. There’s choking under pressure and there’s whatever the team has done over the last couple months. “Choke” doesn’t begin to cover the gag they threw up the last two nights when the season was on the line. Fans leaving the stadium right now aren’t just disappointed, many of them feel betrayed. Hard to blame them. I wonder if Elias might feel the same way.
    • I just can't comprehend how the 2023 team PLUS Corbin Burnes devolved into this pile of excrement. This may be a .500, non-playoff team next year. I didn't expect any sort of magical run this playoff season, but I didn't think they'd get embarrassed AGAIN on the national stage.
    • Better yet, where was Adam Frazier when we needed him most.....oh, wait, in the other dugout.    Bases loaded, no one out....sure could have used that guy that Hangouters had to jettison out of here favor of Jackson Holliday.
