Wagner seems to be coming around a bit, though he’s probably never going to be a high BA guy.  In his last 8 games he’s hit .258/.395/.613 with 3 bombs.  Overall his slash line is still a lowly .180/.300/.350, but things are trending in the right direction after he started the season 0 for 20.

I don’t care what the batting average is if a guy has an obp .137 higher that that.

Thats prob not true… but that’s a really nice obp to average ratio regardless.

Especially when those walks and up on second base (10 steals).

They had him hitting lead off the other day. Not sure if that’s a regular thing  or a kickstart thing but that’s not what I envisioned when he was drafted.

That doesn't mean much.   He's a power-hitting 3B, hopefully.

With baserunning skills evidently.  The only positive I saw in evaluations was "fringy speed" yet he is on pace to steal 40-50 bases.

Some guys have a knack for stealing bases but he could also be taking better advantage of the pitch clock and pickoff rules than most.

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking too.  I think they are helping him get better pitches to see.

As for his steals, it seems A ball tends to run more than higher levels.

Yes, and as BDart notes A ball pitching and catching provides base stealing opportunities that are more pronounced than at higher levels.  I get that he is in more of a "table setter" role than in college but he has never stolen more than two bases a season-now on pace for 40-50.  I just find it quite bizarre that I couldn't find one evaluation that listed base running as a plus!!

The highlighted column is for Speed (base running skill) from Fangraphs. Wagner isn't hitting yet but he is 2nd in the league out of 88 qualified players so yeah base running is a plus.
