Yeah. We'll see. He will have to really play a good ML CF. On the MLBTR podcast recently, Dierkes was saying there are only like 2 or 3 examples of KBO players who were 10% better than average over here. Doesn't mean he can't do it but the odds are suspect and for $100+ mil that's a bit of a risk.

That said don't get me wrong it's a cool signing and I'd love for him to be great.

Assuming they get a bit of a boost from the Korean market he's only has to produce at a 2 win rate for the deal to break even.  He's under contract for his age 25-30 seasons.  A plus defense Center Fielder that makes a lot of contact and can run should be able to manage that.

What's the story on Luis Patino?

At age 20 he was considered the centerpiece that the Rays got in the deal for Blake Snell.   #19 prospect in MLB.

They pretty much gave him away to the White Sox this summer, and the White Sox just DFAd him for a 40 man spot.

Washed up at 24?   Salvagable?  Is there more to the story than I know?

I know the lack of options probably makes him unattractive to pick up.

He can’t throw it across the plate.  High walk rate and his stuff seems to have dipped some.  I think someone else will take chance on him though as bullpen arm they think can be fixed before we would get a chance though.

I would try him in the bullpen.

Feels like a future Immaculate Grid all-star.

At one point I read a mention about a challenge for Latin American SP prospects who are obviously so from a young age (i.e., in contrast to older signs like Framber and some of the other Astros' recent successes) run out of "off the 40-man time" and options before they can consolidate all the skills for starting.     I don't remember exactly where, but a fair guess was somewhere in a Fangraphs Longenhagen deep dive.

He can't throw strikes and seems to have a blister that just won't go away.

Yep, worst that happens is you release him.

Absolutely.  Honestly, I’d be surprised if he was available for us.

It depends on how the team feels about him.  If they really see something in him, it may be worth trading something (that’s really nothing) for him.
