Well, this is why I didn't get the logic of sacrificing a game to save the best relievers for this series. The Big Three aren't going to be of much use in a blowout.

Tonight's game was not a blowout.

The offense showed up tonight, the relief was great, and the starter was terrible.

Showalter cannot anticipate everything, and he (like almost all managers that don't have 100-Plus win teams) has limited resources to work with.

Oh c'mon. He tried to get cute, to set up Gausman, Gallardo, Tillman vs the Jays, despite Worley coming off a great outing. Worley got screwed and so did we.

This is all a symptom of having Ubaldo on the roster.

P.S.

Tillman was also terrible in his last game, and Jimenez managed to give the team 5 innings of 1-run ball.

That's life over the course of the 162-game season. All sorts of crap comes up while you're busy making other plans. If Showlater had "gone for it" last night, the Orioles still might have lost the game in extra innings, and they might have even less bullpen resources to work with tomorrow than they do now.

Yes, the Orioles narrowed the gap and it wasn't a blowout. The point being that we got Chaz Roe last night in order to have the Big Three lined up for tonight. We lost the game that was up for grabs and didn't get this one either.

How is he "getting cute" if you also claim that Jimenez being on the roster is the major symptom?

Do you really think that Showalter is insisting to Angelos and/or Duquette that Jimenez stay on the team?

If a manager has a proverbial albatross on the roster (such as the Orioles did with Kevin Gregg for 3 and-a-half months in 2012 before they finally released him in early September) he isn't "getting cute" by trying to go with what he has.

The Orioles were already losing by the time that Roe came into the game, and the offense last night scored 2 runs. The likelihood of the Orioles winning last night's game had they brought Brach in at the point instead of Roe is not very high.

I think that you are asserting that the decision to not go immediately to Brach last night was a clear-cut one, and I don't believe that it was.

Getting back to original subject of the thread .... It's hard to understand, at times, the Buck Logic.

He keeps Bundy in well beyond his pitch-count (assuming he has one; which I believe he does ... or should!) to, presumably 'save the bullpen' & an obviously laboring Bundy gives up the runs. He pulls Jiminez after 5 innings of 1-run ball, with a pitch-count of 100.

Whom, exactly is he trying to save? The 'pen? Bundy? Jiminez?

Frankly let's face it, he saved None-of-the-Above.

Bundy was great through 5, he was cruising. He wasn't laboring.

Jimenez pitched solid but was playing with fire.

Doesn't matter whose decision it is to keep him there, the fact that he's there allowed Buck to make the decision.

Yes, it does matter. You're just further contradicting yourself.

If it isn't Showalter's decision to keep Jimenez on the team, then he has to make decisions on how to organize the pitching staff with him on the roster.

If having Jimenez on the roster is the main symptom, then that's the problem, not Showalter's decisions on how or how not to use him.
