I don't think this is a good argument.  I believe that every team will do things differently for many players.  You optimize your team based on the rules in place.  But I don't think they are keeping Westburg in Aberdeen for service time reasons, as the game is structured today.  But, if the rules change, I think that GM's will reevaluate their development models, sure.

The thing is, if the organization believes that slow playing a player is best for him and the team, it shouldn't matter what the rules are, right?

Growing up in MD I thought this too until I spent significant time in the Midwest. You take for granted just how much there is to do around this area though I guess it is just a personal preference.  I don’t like Florida much at all for many reasons but I guess I understand the appeal.

Midwest, there's wide open spaces and a slower pace of life.  Florida is pretty cool in parts and while the heat and humidity in the summer is worse than the DMV if possible, at least you won't freeze your ass off in the winter.  

For me it's not necessarily about having lots of things to do, it's also about bang for your buck.  The DMV area is too expensive for what it provides, IMO.  You can get twice the house/land in other parts of the country for half of what you pay here.  Add in people's attitudes, I'm over it.

I'm actually shocked at this thread. I figured if Sports Guy wanted to trade his place of living, it would be a 2 or 3 for one. 

Maybe trade his big house now for a ski chalet, a 10th floor Gulf Coast condo and a 18' Boston Whaler. That's the SG we all know and love. This one for one stuff is boring.

I think they will promote players when they think that the players are ready.  But I accept that new rules may change their definition of ready.

No place has everything.  All in all, the DMV has a lot to offer and is a pretty good place to live, IMO.

Maryland is ranked the 50th best (aka, the worst) state to retire in.  I'm going to SC or Florida when I can.  I'd go now but live in a very nice community with great schools for the boys.
