Are you really this clueless about how baseball works?

Mark Reynolds 2012: .221/.335/.429

Wilson Betemit career vs. RHPs: .281/.349/.475

Danny Valencia career vs. LHPs: .316/.359/.472

Steve Pearce career vs. LHPs: .266/.343/.464

It's like trying to explain the technology made after 1990 to my 64 year old mother.

If platoons work so well more teams would use them ....can you name a successful platoon?

No, because we're talking about the difference between the production provided by Reynolds in 2012 vs. what it's probably being replaced with in 2013.

I think the real question is who would give better production next season. Who cares if they can match his production in a down year?

Of course having a group of DH's matching the numbers put up by a first baseman is a loss to begin with.

Going by Reynolds' career averages, the hypothetical DH platoon looks like a good bet.
