Going off on a tangent is more fun. I believe this went off the rails when someone suggested that perhaps Gausman's command issues were due to his lanky frame, and someone else noted that Palmer had a similarly lanky frame.

So, back to the topic, I don't think a lanky frame has much to do with a pitcher's command. I'm sure I could come up with a long list of lanky-framed pitchers who have/had excellent command.

I think it's just something Gausman needs to continue to work on. It's not like his command is awful, as his 2.6 BB/9 will attest. But it could be a lot better within the strike zone.

Command hasn't ever really been his strongsuit, though, and it can take a while for tall, lanky pitchers to improve their command, I think? (Not a scout or an authority, hence the "?")

But, as you can see, I was very much asking the question. I just remember Randy Johnson often being talked about as an example when there was the discussion of if Daniel Cabrera could ever command his stuff. I'm not sure there is a connection between height and command either--though I think our intuition, or traditional thought, tells us that with more height, more moving parts, it can be sometimes more difficult to command your stuff?--and was genuinely asking the question, as there are plenty more informed and more capable to answer these sort of questions on this forum than I am.

Huge game for Gausman today. He hasn't won a game on the road. We desperately need this one.

I honestly don't think it matters - they are starting CC Slobathia who seems to own out bats no matter how poorly he is faring against everyone else.

      Ten innings isn't much to go on for evaluating a pitcher that hasn't pitched in a year. His old numbers aren't so bad... maybe he needs some time to knock the rust off... or maybe his velocity is gone... who knows...  cheap question to answer. The front office is probably the best I've seen at scraping the dirt off half-eaten dumpster sandwiches, and turning them into decent meals.

      True. Adley has played in 38 of the teams 39 games so far. I know DH is a partial day off, but hopefully they can manage him a little better and keep his legs fresh for the second half.
