In all 4 starts so far this season, Bundy has pitched fairly well the first time through the lineup and then had much more trouble the 2nd time through ........ that may not be just a coincidence, and I suspect that the notion of moving him to the bullpen may not be a bad idea (Can of Corn suggested using him as an "Opener", which would be a similar strategy.)

May have spoke too soon ........ Bundy is pumping it at 93 in the fifth inning all of a sudden.

Somebody tell OFFNY to just shut up and watch the game next time.

I saw as low as 88 in the first inning.

I don't have a great idea of how the shoulder works, but maybe something loosened up in there.  That would be great if he could carry it into this next start(s).

The difference between Bundy at 88-91 and 92-93 is night and day.  The off speed stuff becomes more effective as well as they have to gear up for the fastball.

Now does Bundy come out for the 6th? He's at 88 pitches.

I thought Bundy’s outing was encouraging.    Good fastball command all night and some pretty effective changeups.    His slider wasn’t as sharp as usual and he left one over the middle that got crushed.   Suddenly started throwing 93 consistently in the 5th.   Overall he could have finished off a couple of guys that he had 2-strike counts on, but he was pretty effective.   Something to build on.

That slider to start out Garcia was terrible. Velo uptick was probably him just being real pissed after that. Roberts pointed out that he seemed frustrated with Sucre at times. He buckled in and dotted two FB on the outside corner after Sucre visited. Sucre probably should have went out there again before Garcia.

Bundy has lost the premium velocity, but he still has enough to get by. I know the dude is a workout warrior but did he do too much lifting and not enough cardio in the offseason?  I know he has the calcified shoulder, but done after 88 pitches?  Idk, there is room to hope because he threw some nasty change ups. Even tried a CB.

Lots of SP get by off of pitching off the Change up. Bundy needs to become that type. The FB doesn’t look like it’s going to come back. You throw a bunch of sliders and you’re eventually going to hang one.

Bundy needs to hit some batters. Many hitters look like kids in a candy store in the box against him. I honestly think some of his strikeouts are because hitters are so aggressive against him. (More so than other pitchers)  They are definitely thinking feast.

Bundy ceded 2 Earned Runs over 6 Innings Pitched ........ Dwight Smith, Jr. didn't have a banner day in leftfield, although he did come through at the plate with a clutch, 2-RBI-Single with 2 outs to get the Orioles back in the game.

Through his overall struggles, Bundy does have a good Strikeout rate so far this season (26 Strikeouts in 23.33 Innings Pitched.)

18 OUTS: )4 Strikeouts, 4 Groundouts, 4 Flyouts, 3 Lineouts, 2 Popouts, 1 Foulout

From the radio, it seemed like the Buxton double that led to the fourth run was misjudged by Smith who took a step in and then couldn’t recover.    The announcers felt it was scalded but catchable if Smith had judged it correctly.

The ball was scalded and hit directly over his head. He didn't get a good read and couldn't catch up with it. Not sure he would have even with a good read.

Bundy has looked better the last two starts and it seems there are less pitches clocking in at 88-90 than I saw in his first few starts.  He's more consistently 90-92.  If he can continue to spot his fastball that can play with his above average secondaries.

As bad as he's been, he's probably still got the best overall stuff of all of our starters even with the diminished fastball.

    • Great to hear. Never really doubted that he did hold team meetings or try to rally them during the rough stretch.
    • I'm very confident in everything but our bullpen, which was terrible down the stretch (month of September). As long as we don't get into a later bullpen battle game, we should be good. The preference (obviously) would to get an early lead so that our guys can relax and forget about last year.
    • I also think it would be kind of lame to put him in after he's dead now.  It meant everything to the guy to get in, now you put him in when he'll never know he made it?  That's lame.
    • I've never really had a strong opinion on Rose to the HOF, but I will say that its a bad look to have him out for gambling while I have to sit through all the damn 'single game parlay' picks on pregame shows and what not.  I know, he bet on games he was involved in, and I used to think that was a legit reason to keep him out - and maybe it still is.  I'm just not so sure anymore given the overall embrace of sports gambling.  Its everywhere, its annoying, and it moves the needle a bit in re Rose, IMO.
    • I don't think it's really taking anything for granted. We have 9 guys in the bullpen for a three game series. In an ideal world we use 4, maybe 5. A lot of teams are using 11 pitchers (8 bullpen). The use case for Selby/Suarez would be an emergency situation where the game is likely lost anyway. Even in that situation you still want to keep Suarez fresh rather than burn him in a game you are likely to lose. In the meantime, use the roster spot for a guy you might actually pitch. We are trading maybe .0001% WPA for the wild card series for 5-10% WPA of the divisional should we get there.  That being said, I'm surprised it's Selby over Bowman.
    • If this WC series comes down to we lost by not having Suarez on the roster we have much bigger problems than we'd thought.
    • The Twins offense had been absolutely abysmal for a long time. They were 17 games over .500 at one point then couldn't score a run to save their lives and went into a free fall.
