Moves I’d like to see this weekend

The only two logical reasons I've heard for him not being up are some combination of Super 2 status and trying to keep him from finishing too high in the ROY voting.

Both of those things are about money.

Those are both theories coming from here, nothing anyone in the know has said.   But Connolly has been saying for weeks that he belueves they will call up Rutschman when they feel he’s ready, that it’s purely a baseball decision.  I don’t necessarily agree with that, but that’s Connolly’s opinion.

Gets called up for tomorrow night and catches, day off Sunday, day game.  He sits or is DH, Is Mountcastle coming off IL? It's going to get crowded.

Agreed. Let’s give AR & Rodriquez another full year in AAA to percolate. https://twitter.com/joetrezz/status/1527863333474512896?s=21&t=QFp8U_BAKFpMOxHO2uHWgA

Well #2 has happened.  Adley up,  Bemboom DFA'd  (I think Elias would love to see him join Norfolk)

#1 Mountcastle activated will happen today.  My guess is the McKenna will be optioned.   Hyde loves Owings and Odor so don't expect them to be DFA'd and they don't have options left.   Hyde/Elias  I think will stay with 14 pitchers as long as they can(May 31st).  Overuse of the guys  in the pen is at hand.

#3 Promote Grayson is totally realistic.  If they have called up Adley, Grayson should is just as ready.  He has now pitched well on 5 days rest twice.   Start Grayson Sunday and  Option Watkins.   DFA Bannon.

Hyde needs help for his pen and there is not an off day for another 5 days.  So...  Baumann and Diplan up. Both last pitched on May 17th.  And Vespi and (Gillaspie or Baker) down.

That would affect 11 players.   And it all could happen in the next two days.

I think they’ve already announced Watkins as tomorrow’s SP.

That could change any time.  They waited until this morning to announce Adley.

It could change but normally you would just leave the SP as TBA. They’ve done that a lot this year. I doubt they’d announce Watkins only to call up Grayson later.

But what do I know? I was sure Adley was going to be down until the next homestand

I love Dan but this is accurate. Elias/Angelos always about money. If you believe otherwise, your naive.

I haven't seen enough of John Angelos, but I agree everything he's done -- except approve the Lyles signing -- has been about money.

It's not fair to say that about Peter Angelos. I think there were plenty of instances when his arrogance, stubbornness and/or stupidity overcame his financial greed. Just sayin'.

    • My takeaway is about payroll and all the suffering we've endured.   Mike, Sig, and Eve have the best plan, even when you have deep pockets, which we might now.   My other take away is closers are still undervalued, I remember what it felt like when Britton pitched in 2016 and last year (and hopefully next year) with Bautista.   In other words, Shorten the game, and don't sign huge long term contacts that will ultimately force you to play guys who are ready for the broadcast booth.
    • The Reds have come a long way from the Marge Schott days.  I miss colorful owners.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marge_Schott
    • OK folks, first month in the books and I had the itch to take a peek at stats through May 2 of the last two years respectively.   Well it’s startling! 2023 Mateo: 76AB 6HR 18 RBI 10SB 6BB 14K .338/384/.636/1.020 2024 Cowser: 83AB 6HR 18RBI 3SB 9BB 33K .277/.351/.578/.929 And of course as Jim Palmer responded to Kevin Brown “he (Cowser) needs to hit the cutoff man!”.   When Hays returns do the cow costumes start showing up at Goodwill?  I guess there is talk of a “cow pasture” section at the May 12 Toronto game.  Will Cowser be above .250 in 10 days?   I appreciate Cowser as a player and seems like an excellent teammate and person but I’m afraid the hype maybe getting in front of the train.  (inadvertent reference to cow catcher on a train).
    • I agree, I watched every game, and the Yankees look downright weak. Rodon is one of the most overpriced/overrated pitchers in baseball. Stanton might be the slowest person in professional sports and he swings at garbage. Judge hasn't been the same since he injured his toe. Rizzo is bleh. I am not scared of them whatsoever.  As far as us, I feel way more confident about our starting pitching, particularly with Bradish looking strong. Kremer might end up having a great year. Our bullpen too. And damn do we have some hitters.  I feel damn good about our chances at winning the division.
    • Roch: Austin Hays grabbed his spikes yesterday and walked out of the Orioles’ clubhouse. He had another box to check. Hays ran the bases for the first time since landing on the 10-day injured list on April 22 with a strained left calf muscle. He sprinted from third to home and wasn’t favoring the leg. That was only part of his workout. The Orioles didn’t schedule batting practice but they arranged for Hays to take some swings on the field. It was significant ramping of baseball activities after Hays had run the last two days, hit in the indoor cage and threw. “Everything’s been going good,” he said. “I’ve been up to 90 percent of my game speed, so getting really close. Just got to check a couple more boxes, but everything we’ve done so far, there have been no setbacks, nothing negative. I think we’re getting really close.” Hays could use an uninterrupted stretch of games. A stomach virus in spring training shed about 10 pounds from his frame, and he experienced a different illness in Pittsburgh. He went 4-for-29 down in Florida and is 5-for-45 this season with no extra base hits. Before heading out to the field, Hays said he didn’t know whether he’d go on an injury rehab assignment to get some at-bats. “We’re still trying to decide that, like, ‘OK, if you’re good in the next couple days, where are we going to be at?’” he said. “We’ll see once I check off all the sprinting boxes, baserunning, hitting. Just see what we decide.” Manager Brandon Hyde sounded yesterday like he expected Hays to join an affiliate. “Hopefully he can start doing some minor league games here pretty soon,” Hyde said.
    • you're replying to my post without reading it. Again where does mayo play on this 26. So who goes of the roster (Urias) You're going to have Mayo play 3B over Urias? This administration loves defense. Did you watch the Yankee series?
    • Yeah it makes you think again before considering swapping a high-end talent like Basallo for a top closer like Miller. When you can plug in a DFA guy like Webb or Coulombe or Perez, or groom a wild flamethrower like Bautista from the farm. Just throw strikes.
