The Mets seem to be stockpiling Catchers.

OPEC started doing this in the mid 70s to control oil prices...maybe it will work here.

We will see which is the better plan, bufferstock or "waiting for the market to settle."

They figure by buying all of the catchers up, no one else will have one.

I wouldn't be so sure of it yet. It's on mlbtraderumors, but their link is to www.metsblog.com, which no longer has it posted. And if you look at what the title of the blog should have been, it was something along the lines of "Buzz: Mets trade Millege for Church and Schneider." Key work, Buzz.

EDIT: Nevermind, now they are calling it "News."

According to SNY, the Mets have traded Lastings Milledge to the Nationals for C Brian Schneider and OF Ryan Church.

…from what i understand, Mets GM Omar Minaya is currently saying that this will not impact his efforts to acquire a top-line starting pitcher…

In 144 games for the Nationals last season, the left-handed hitting Church, 29, hit .272 with 15 HR and 70 RBI through 47 at-bats.

Reprocussions:

Johnny Estrada will be non-tendered. The Mets saved themselves 3.6M by unloading Mota.

Milledge will now be the CF for the Nats.

Church will be 4th OF for Mets.

Schnieder and Castro will share catching duties in New York.

Ramon Hernandez will definitely not go to New York now.
