I'm agreeing with you there.  Unless some long range play exists that I can't figure out I don't see where it makes a difference if the talent acquired in a trade is international or domestic.  Hence my line about winning a DSL title.

Frankly it's a really really bad idea as the hit rate on J2 talent is even worse than the rule 4 draft. When you're in talent acquisition phase you don't worry about where the talent comes from or what position they play.

I don't think going to one of these families and mentioning that the O's traded for a couple of 17 year olds is going to be moving any needles.

I guess maybe if the player in question is a close relative?

If you're making a new commitment to international signings you want to become competitive with other teams as soon as possible.

I'm assuming that all the top kids have advisers who keep them abreast of what the teams are doing.

You are the parent of one of these kids, does this trade make you more likely to advise your son to sign with the O's?

I don't think it does.  Whatever he's doing I don't think it's that.

Another place states it would be 360 innings total in 2018-2019 and that he is at 249.1 combined which leaves 110.9 to become a player option.   Unlikely to get that many even without manipulation.

That's for it to be a player option. He only needs to hit a combined 340 for the option to be guaranteed by both parties.

      I was 11 when the O's won their first WS in 1966. The O's went to the WS four times over the next 6 years.  In the last 30 years they have done nothing but break my heart. I'm 69 now and doubt I will live long enough to see it happen. With new ownership there is some hope.

      At least the O's scored a run today.  0-5 so far for this version of playoff O's. The kids are not alright.

      I’m old. I’ve been an O’s fan for the last 50 years. Always will be. But it takes leadership with the right vision to assemble and guide these teams to greatness. I don’t think that vision prevails today. I know it’s not a popular opinion, but having a bunch of sub 250 hitters is not a great philosophy unless they bring something else outstanding to your team. A superior defender and a premium defensive position is one example. Mark Belanger is a prime example. SS, hit 210. Was absolutely without peer defensively. OK. He was a vital cog on some great teams. Speed. Put pressure on a defense. generate runs. Make the opposition make mistakes. Bunt for base hits. Steal bases and put people in scoring position. Hit behind the runner. Nothing good happens when you can’t put the ball in play. defense. Earl Weaver would say, if you can’t play defense then you can’t play. Earls famous saying, “pitching, defense and the 3 run HR”. Yes, he had Boog, Brooks and Frank. But all three of those guys were excellent defensively and they hit the ball. Consistently. He had Paul Blair, Belanger…. guys who could also play excellent defense and put pressure on an opposing defense.    I just don’t like the way we play the game today

      Adley was very frustrating at the plate.  His throwing improved. He also gained a noticeable amount of weight.  I hope he was just hurt and couldn’t workout.  But he clearly needs to work on his framing, which is awful especially low in the zone, and also his pitch selection.  He lets too many cup high middle middle pitches

      I'm not sure how I'm viewed. I know how I was early on. Like all of you, I am currently pissed and have said so in other threads. I thought I was really pissed but after reading Tony's OP, I got to say my pisstitude doesn't quite reach that level so there is that. Made me feel somewhat better. 😀 I just can't stand this offensive (or lack there of) approach. I know the game has changed a lot in my lifetime but I just have so many memories of Oriole hitters who didn't look like this on a nightly basis. I don't know what the answer is but these kids, many we earlier lusted be extended, need a jolt of some kind. Just like the kids of the late fifties and early sixties needed Frank. I don't think firing Hyde gets you that jolt. But I do think as I've said before, the clock just started clicking for Elias. And, I've said this before too, going to be a telling off season and OH is just warming up.
