Arm injury for Bautista?

If he has pain while throwing, then he's not going to be effective because it will affect his mechanics.

Which could also lead to him injuring another part of this arm to compensate.  I think it’s a short-sighted idea and untimely don’t think they’ll let him pitch again.

He has reps and the union. There is no way the O's can force him to do anything. There must be at least some medical opinion/evidence that suggests that it is okay to go down this road or his reps and the union wouldn't allow it.

We really know nothing other than that there is "some degree of injury" to his UCL. "Some degree" is extremely, extremely vague.

For whatever reason the organization is being very tight lipped about it. And this whole "waiting for inflammation to recede" is odd too. I've never heard of heard of doing that to get a proper diagnosis of a UCL injury before. It's all very suspicious.

I agree. I have heard of guys rehabbing a partial tear but it is rare. Although details are unclear to the fans, I am sure that his reps and the union have all the available information.

I am really not interested in the opinions of doctors who have not examined Bautista and have no idea about the extent of his injury, and I’m even less interested in the opinions of posters.  The Orioles and their professional training staff, I’m sure in consultation with doctors who actually have examined Bautista and who specialize in this for a living, have cleared him to do a little throwing off flat ground.  We don’t know what they think or what the plan is, but I’m sure the plan is not to do something that significantly risks making  Bautista’s injury worse, or materially delaying his rehab time if surgery is needed.  So we’ll see what happens.  I, for one, do not expect to see Bautista in a game again this year.
