Best possible move they could make, but it seems unlikely.

I'm hoping we can at least land Lorenzen.

Lorenzen or Clevinger. Lorenzen could be a set up man out of the pen if everyone comes back. Also, Zimmerman is our 6th SP right now. 7th is between McDermott, Povich, Suarez, and Heasley.

How cheap are we that we couldn’t be a 4/13 KBO deal. That’s like $4.25 million a year. Crap.

If Ryu wanted to pitch in the US he would have received more than $4.25m/year. I wouldn't view that as a reflection on the O's.

Cool stat: Hyun Jin Ryu has the highest WAR (20.1) of any Korean pitcher in history. Second highest WAR of all Korean players, behind Shin Soo Choo.

Looking through his stats, he put together a real nice career. All Star. Two top-3 finishes in Cy Young voting. 3.27 ERA over 1055.1 IP. Led the NL in ERA and ERA+ in 2019...

A real legend of Korean baseball.

He has a very similar profile to John Means. Might be dreaming here, but I'd love to see Means put up similar numbers as Ryu in his age 30-36 seasons.

I don't think Lorenzen is a particularly great pitcher, but he's a guy that has experience in several different roles. Given our budget, he may be the best option left (if Ryu is headed back to Korea).

LOL it's not a political position. Evolutionary psychologists argue that we’re naturally hardwired to care about women’s suffering more because “eggs are expensive, sperm is cheap.” There's certainly a lot of truth to that, though I'm sure if one considers how most cultures throughout history have treated women, and because it seems to assume a mechanism based in group selection. Whether or not the tendency reflects a rule of human nature, it is unquestionably true that the modern west prioritizes female well-being, and that's a good thing.

Look your points probably do point to some regression for Bauer since he last pitched in the MLB. I'm not really arguing that, but I also think he'd come very cheap (read easy to get rid of if he is a detrimental club-house presence) and frankly I still think his K/9 numbers point to more long-term run prevention when compared to Kremer (who I like but is not really more than a 5th starter), Wells (again, I like, but seems to be more a bullpen piece as he wears down), and Irvin (who is an AAAA guy).

Bradish is out for the year in all likelihood. John Means is on the brink of injuries ending his career as an effective MLB Pitcher.

You have Burnes, G-Rod (injury prone?), Kremer, Irvin, Wells......baking in regression from last year, going to be hard to repeat as AL East champs without MLB proven arms imo.

Dude, you're literally quoting, without attribution I might add, political activist Richard Hanania. I think @DrungoHazewoodhas the best take on this question and it's solidy baseball based.  https://www.richardhanania.com/p/womens-tears-win-in-the-marketplace#:~:text=Some evolutionary psychologists argue that, mechanism based in group selection.

I’d be disappointed if we wound up with Lorenzen.

It certainly isn't exciting, but if we aren't making a trade and aren't paying for Snell/Montgomery who is still out there?

I think they'll do something else but it'll be underwhelming.

You think they will do something more than Lorenzen? I don't know, he kind of seems like best case scenario right now unless Elias has another trade up his sleeve.

Lorenzen was an effective bullpen guy before he recently switched to starting. If we get lucky and Means/Bradish are healthy, he can go there and still provide value. Not sure that's going to be the case with anyone else we'd sign.

I'm trying to remain positive. Trading for Burnes with the 2 injuries and setbacks doesn't make sense. They still need another pitcher if they have any hopes to keep pace in the AL.
