Duke Vs Md

So, what do you expect to happen in this game?

I think the key for MD is getting Williams in foul trouble if they can. If they cam't, they won't be able to stop him and judging by the way they played perimeter defense against NC St, i am thinking Duke could have a field down behind the line, especially if Williams is going off.

I say Duke wins by double digits.

Like Raven said, it depends on if the guys decide to play hard or tank it again, and I really don't know which to expect.

If th A-squad shows up, it'll be a real tight game. If they don't, it will be Duke by a big margin.

I think a Duke win is more likely because even if Maryland shows up strong Duke could still win at home and if we don't show up we'll have no chance. But, I wouldn't be shocked at all to see a Maryland win. Duke will have some serious matchup problems with Maryland on the inside if Ibekwe and Garrison can both play tough. Maryland has always handled Sheldon Williams well, and I don't think he'll be the difference. As Rob said, perimeter defense will be a key, and Maryland will certainly need to shoot better than we did the other night.

Hopefully it'll be a hell of a game.

I don't see anyway we win this game.

If we can slow down Williams inside, play good perimeter D, and actually shoot the ball fairly well I still think we lose a close game on the road to a good team.

The more likely scenario is us losing by 15 or more.

I'll pretty much echo everyone else's thoughts. If the Maryland A squad shows up they can be competitive. Don't know if they can win, but they can at least make it a game. If the B squad shows up, they're in trouble.

And if they continue their poor team perimeter defense against Redick and Ewing, they'll lose somewhere between 20 and 200.

Two things will decide this game for the Terps: defending Redick outside, and finding an inside presence against Williams.

Hopefully, some combination of guards (McCray/Ledbetter) can keep Redick from getting open, while an Ibekwe/Gist/Garrison/Bowers rotation can get some inside points and rebounds while putting Williams in foul trouble. If those happen, I see the Terps winning. If one doesn't, we lose. If neither does, we lose big.

The problem is that it's team defense that is reallly lacking. McCray could slow Redick down pretty easily if he just shadowed him the whole time. But this time does not communicate well and they just never seem to have a feel for what the other guy is going to do. So many times I've seen two guys follow one man on a screen, leaving the other wide open. It's even worse in the transition game, where Duke excels.

I'm a big Gary backer, but this is one area where I think he really needs to shape things up. The defensive communication of this team is terrible. Giving up 53 points in a half to a team like NC State is just pathetic, especially for a team with very good perimeter defenders (McCray, Gilchrist) and shot blockers (Ibekwe, Gist, Garrison). There is no excuse for them to have performed so poorly so far on the defensive end.

I'm a huge Terp fan, but this team just isn't very good. They don't defend, they can't shoot, and they have no inside presence. I absolutely despise Duke, but there's no way the Terps win this game. Duke can either shoot them out of the gym with Reddick, Ewing, etc. or pound them inside with Williams and Randolph. The Terps will lose by at least 12, and that's probably being generous. I just hope they play hard for once and at least look like they care for a change. That being said, I'll be watching and screaming at my TV tomorrow night.

Well, when you have immature unknowledgable fans chanting F you JJ and taunting you and then you go out and shove it up their azz, you can act like a punk IMO. LOL

Sounds like a vicious cycle to me...

    • Yeah, basically this, that Westburg's underlying numbers (EV, barrel %, xwOBA) seem to point at this being pretty real, or at least that there's nothing 'undeserved / lucky' about this hot streak, if it's just that.
    • The problem with a Cowser/Kjerstad/Stowers/Bradfield outfield roster is there are no right handers to handle LHP. I don't think and completely left handed outfield is the destination for an organization the values versatility.
    • Looks maybe concussion related.
    • How can you not be romantic about baseball? This seems slightly poetic. I enjoyed reading, and correlated your experience in the stands back to what I watch in Game 1 on MASN.  It was also pretty cool to hear Jim Palmer give you a shout out in Game 2 of the series on Live TV.
    • I am not worried.  It just doesn’t remotely meet the eye test.  He has been great in the field . I can think of at least 3 outstanding plays he has made and not any that I thought he should have gotten but didn’t. Meanwhile Holliday is 3 OAA and I can’t think of an outstanding play and can think of a number I thought he should have made.
    • Nicely stated Roy. Every since I was 9 years old and saw the O's vs. the Tokyo Giants in Tokyo in 1971, I've been infected with the Orange/Black virus. There is no cure and I don't want one. You and I sat at the lunch table with Jim Palmer at the 1970 World Series Champs reunion, and its still one of my enduring baseball memories. You said I looked like Carlton Fisk! I was at all 3 games in this Angels series, right behind the O's dugout. I got to see all our boys, and just simply love to watch this team play. And in true baseball fashion, the one game on paper we should have dominated (GRod vs. 8+ ERA Channing), we end up down 7-0 and lose. But watching Gunnar's homers, his electric triple, and he made a fantastic play today on a ball that went under Westburg's glove, Adley do Adley things, Cowser, holy crap. Kimbrel v. Trout with bases loaded, bottom of 9th, 2 outs, down by 2? That was fun. Next game Trout bats leadoff and torches a GRod fastball for a homer to the opposite field.  An observation.... If you didn't know anything about the team, and you only watched game 1 batting practice, you'd think Cowser and O'Hearn were the studs of the team. Mountcastle was taking BP with the reserves and he put on a show as well.  Home after 3 straight days watching this O's team, so jealous of the Balt fans in Balt that get to see the team with regularity. It's a special bunch.
