MASN off of Comcast?

I have FIOS, and we got notice that we could lose Fox 45 by Dec 31 because Verizon and Sinclair were having trouble reaching agreement.   But they reached agreement at the last minute.

I think it will get resolved before opening day because Comcast will be at risk of bleeding subscribers who only have a cable subscription to watch Orioles games.

They do have an app, and it works well, but it’s only available right now if you also have a cable package.   Perhaps Comcast customers will be able to get a standalone MASN if there isn’t a new contract with Comcast.

I've seen this discussed a few places.  They'll have to reach an agreement.  It would be very damaging to both sides otherwise.

Any chance this affects whether MASN becomes available on streaming platforms like Youtube TV? I've been wondering whether MASN's avoidance of streaming services was due to general strategy or part of an existing deal with one of the big providers.

I think this is more of a strategy of the streaming services to keep costs down.  They do have a few RSNs but they mostly seem to be owned (or partially owned) by Fox/NBC, who negotiate them in as part of a package deal.

In my various perusing the interwebs last year when MLB Network & Youtube.tv couldn't come to a renewal agreement, I saw a lot of folks saying the streaming services want to put the RSNs in a Sports Package that's additional cost to avoid putting the cost on all subscribers. The RSNs want to be part of the main package. They can never work this out. That's part of the reason the RSNs are in such trouble. Instead of getting less money from streaming services, they get none and now they're where they are.

For those that think they will reach an agreement, it is comcast that we are talking about.  The company that has a monopoly and keeps raising prices at a ridiculous rate.  Comcast recently dropped Pittsburgh sports from my lineup.  They did that at the same time they raised rates.  So nice of them.   I can live with that, because I am only a casual Penguins fan when it comes to hockey.  I am a lifelong, diehard Oriole baseball fan, so I will be totally pissed if they drop MASN.

This is a very common occurrence / way that individual channels and providers negotiate in public. So much so, that there's an I Think You Should Leave (very OH-relevant as Adley is a huge fan of the show) skit premised around such a scenario. They will likely reach an agreement. 

Much like league-union negotiations, there is always worry about an agreement not being reached, but in most instances we see an 11th hour agreement because that's the point at which the parties have incentive to move off of their initial set of demands.

Comcast sucks. I hope it works out but I won't hold my breath.

Probably the more important thing is not whether a new deal can be reached, but (1) whether it will pay less to MASN due to cord-cutting, and (2) whether it will restrict MASN from offering stand-alone streaming.

Well, more important depends on who you are talking to.   I know many, many people who get their TV via Comcast and their ability to watch the Orioles is at stake based on whether a deal is reached.
